Hi Guys,

I want to develop an in house solution that has to do the following...
- Read info from a Serial port
- process that info and barcode a number onto a printer sticker.
- Link to a MySQL database to store this entry when the sticker was print
- Have a GUI

I doesn't need to be windows, if it can cross compile on linux that would be better.

What language would be ideal?
What IDE should I look at?
Is there a open source platform to start and build from that?

Any pointers will be appreciated.

Gui: SceneBuilder
IDE: Eclipse
Language: Java

Does it need to be from a serial port? What device are you connecting to it?

.net can cross compile to Linux now, so take all languages/GUIs/IDEs, print out small labels. Attach those labels to a dart-board, then blindfold yourself, take 3 darts and throw them at the dartboard (after spinning around and having someone point you in the general direction) and throw them.

If it hits an option, use that.

Or, you could just choose one you're familiar with an go with that

Yes its 115200 Serial, it must read the sim and other info from an embedded device via serial.

The problem is that I'm familiar with embedded C/C++ but completely useless with windoze apps, thus I need the guidance of the grandmasters on the forum.
