Which pool pump to choose?

Moved into a house with a roughly 40-50k pool in it. The pool pump (a 0.75kw one, attached to a sand filter) has been getting progressively louder for the past weeks.

Now, it has stopped working altogether. It makes a humming noise and then just dies completely.

We've had loadshedding but the power supply to it seems fine. Kreepy is fine.

I've had a look at the suggested online fixes and it doesn't seem to be any of those. Even if it is fixable in the short term, it looks pretty old and as if it was in need of replacement.

What are the recommended replacements? There doesn't seem to be much choice in the sub-R5k bracket.

Are they no quieter ones / ones with nicer features than others?

My pool has been running a Speck 1kw for the past 2 decades and still running strong. Been through numerous spells of dry running (doesn't have an auto cutoff due to being an older model) and hasn't missed a beat yet. You get what you pay for in the end.

from the part we can see it actually doesnt even look that bad, my bet would be a jammed up impeller, i would see if the impeller has an obstruction with my fingers

Which is not actually quality.

They are the cheapest pumps for a reason.

Ok. Maybe I must try to take the back off. That's where the impellor is, right?

stick your finger in there from the basket side (obviously with it off) feel around and see if you can make the impeller move at all with your finger.

yeah i would generally do this, then if it moves just feel around if there is anything like hair, dog hair, some debree or anything etc, then close it all up, give it a small backwash and see if it will run.

if there is a serious noise coming from the pump it is very possible you need to change the bearings and shaft seal, but lets cross one bridge at a time.

Best way to tell if its seized or not is to take off the fan shroud/guard and try spin it both ways, if it feels free then most likely your capacitor is gone, they are cheap and easy to replace.

We have a speck but this winter was so cold that the water froze inside I imagine and couldnt turn, got so hot it cooked the bearings, been fixed but now its not the same as it was before.
