Which provider is slowing down my fibre?

I noticed my 40MB fibre line is only managing ~20MB download speeds over the last few days. I have separate providers for the infrastructure (Openserve), ISP and data.

1) Coincidentally Openserve was doing another installation down my street on Saturday, so I asked them to check my line. Technician shows my the app that indicated a full line speed sync
2) I phone my ISP and they say there is no problem with my line and that I should check my data provider as it may be throttling
3) I phone my data provider to check, but as expected they say the data package (ADSL fatpipe capped) is never throttling. They helpfully suggested to check with ISP

How do I determine where in the provisioning chain my problem lies - is there some way to diagnose? Only remaining thought was to get a small once-off data bundle package from ISP and check if their data gives the same problem.

Any suggestions?

You'd have to try packages from different ISPs if you want to diagnose this yourself. You should also do tests at differrent times of the day and night. You might find that its congested during peak times, but at like 3am you get full speeds and low latency.

I'm assuming your data is the Vox Fatpipe and if so then based on my experience this could be the problem. I have not used them for around two years now but when I had ADSL I was using two of there accounts and initially they worked as advertised but after they ran there two for one specials everything tanked.

As the posters above me have mentioned I believe you should try a different ISP and compare. Not sure if Afrihost still offer the free 1GB accounts but that would be perfect.

In my experience, I've found that Openserve + Telkom Internet prioritise speedtests. So when the techie comes to your home, they do a speedtest and everything looks hunky dory but the reality is, is that it's not.

Reach out to Cool Idea's - they have a temp Openserve account that you can use to test.

I've seen horrific traceroute's with Openserve/Telkom Internet and when I re-ran the traceroute with Cool Idea's it was perfect.

Thanks, I will try a quest account with another ISP to check if the speed improves
