I am currently with Nashua Mobile. My contract is up for renewal so I made contact with them to decide which contract option is best for me based on historical data. Great. However I asked them what the contract price would be if I did not take a new phone (I am happy with my current phone). The same was the reply. In other words I pay the same whether or not I take a new phone! This is crazy. If I don't take a phone I should get a better deal, or am I living on cloud 9?

Is this the attitude of all service providers? Does it help shopping around or am I wasting my time? Should I look at another network? I am currently with MTN

Packages are already built!

I get free phones so my mum did not need a phone when she upgraded, so I persuaded the SP to give me an expensive phone (which we qualified for free) But want the cost of that phone credited to our tariff package, we got 16 months free subs, with no phone!;)

Try it!

Service providers do not get allowance incentive unless a new serial number is linked to your contract. Phones don't last forever take a phone and keep it or sell it.
Don't let other sp's do dodgey deals and get you implicated in fraud or other funnies, ICASA regulates tariffs so no sp is allowed to change the price.

If you renew for 24 months you will a get a deal, if you want to run month by month there is no incentive and no guarantee they will make their money back. If you want to try one of those reduced deals port to virgin, but remember you can only port once in 60 days. It is a long time to regrett you descision.

Errrr their incentives are linked to the 24 month contract that was extended....

A very good way to do it is to sell any phone you can get and let the buyer decide what phone to get. So then you ask what phone they are interested in and find out how much the phone costs and on what package you get the phone and sell it for cheaper than it normally costs new. That way the buyer gets a bargain on a new phone and you get cash that you can use to pay off your contract for the future.

Doing it this way and with the right phone you can get almost the whole 2 years paid for with the cash you getting for the phone, depending on what package you're on and network.
