Allo Guys

Firstly, if there is already something that answers the below, I probably didn't see it.

Hoping someone can help me here. I'm looking for some advice on a car purchase. I am toss up between purchasing a small budget A segment vehicle, or purchasing a light B segment second hand vehicle.

If you had R125K what would you go for and why? I'm budgeting at between around R115k - R130k.

What I'm looking at:
Kia Rio 1.2 or 1.4 (Prefer this one but short of supply, big demand and pricey, over my budget)
Old Mazda2 1.3 Active
Suzuki Swift 1.2 gl or 1.4 gl
Kia Picanto 1.2 EX
Hyundai i10 Grand 1.2 Motion (Aren't many secondhand, too pricey over my budget)

Cars that I'm not too sure about are Honda Jazz 1.3 Trend, Hyundai i10, Hyundai i20.

What I don't want:

Anything with more than 40,000KM's on the clock as it needs to last.
Anything older than 2011.
No Polo because I already have one, don't want to go there.
No Fiesta because my sibling has one, don't want to go there.

Any advice for a relatively inexperienced car buyer? :p

Vote for Mazda 2 or one of the French cars; in particular late model 207 or Clio 3.

Stay away from the 207. The clutch goes kaput every 30K.

You can rather look at a 208 that comes will the balance of a service plan for under R125K. Below is an example.

Please just copy and paste that link...

The reason why french cars(with a service plan) is good is all the standard features VS cost.

The service plan from a dealer like Hatfield can be extended from 60K to 120K for R9K.

I had a 207. Big money pit.

I recently bought a 208(2nd car). Apart from the suspension the 208 beats my C200. Tech in the 208 wins hands down. I had to pay R8K for bluetooth telephony in the Merc.

In the 208 it streams music via bluetooth while waiting to receive a call. I bought a higher end 208(ehdi Allure) with some extra features but not that many from the 1.2 entry level.

The big point is the service plan.......

Test drove an i20. Was a very good experience though I bought an Astra instead - didn't receive it at the end of the day but the test drive proved a nicer ride and better quality. Take a look at the Corsas as well

I've got a 208 and it is a great car BUT the Access that he will be looking at does have less features than the Allure than you have.

Still a great car - test drive it at least OP. They are the only car in their price range that comes with a maintenance plan as standard - not a service plan. Mine has a 100 000km / 5 year maintenance plan - all I had to do was pay in R5700 to get it. Standard is 60000km/5 year maintenance plan.

The Suzuki is a great car and your chances of getting a discount on it is much greater than the others that have higher demand. I would go haggle with a few dealers and see who gives the best deal and take that one.

i20 1.2 motion?
If you're not big on speed.
It's not really small though... but you can get a 2013 model with less than 40 000km for under R130k

Get something a little older (3 years old or so) and bigger, better, safer etc.

Those threads deal with cars far over 40,000km so it is not what the OP wants. Despite what you my think some people prefer lower mileage cars.

It depends on their reasons for preferring lower mileage cars. Most of the time you'll find it's based on fear, which most of the time is unfounded.
