Checkers offer a good basket price on goodies but surprisingly Woolies not far behind. Spar and Pick and Pay are no longer cost effective.

Spar has never been cost effective, like ever.

Spar is a convenient supermarket and their prices reflect that. They are not a real supermarket.

1. Food Lovers Market
2. Checkers

I have only been to spar 2x this year, and yet they were one of my favourites before, but they have become extremely expensive.

Pnp only to buy specials.

Woolworths hardly ever. Just like their Grilled Chicken, Ice Cream, flour and sugar only. The rest wont even bother with. Even their cakes shot up by 50% in pricing. So now simply get it from Food Lovers or Checkers.

Checkers now after the PnP closed where I live.

Funny thing though.

Pointed out to my mother all the new dirty faces at Shoprite that is in its place.

Spar I find big differences from one to the other. We have some of the greatest Spars and then also some of the worst in the country. Many of them are build in suburbs that has nothing else close by and then they just don't care as they are always busy.

P&P have always been my favorite place to shop. But only P&P Hypermarket, these little small P&P's are just shyte.

Just give this thread some time.
Everything is average to below average. Their cooked food is the worst shyte I have ever tasted in my life. Everything looks delicious till you taste it.
Unfortunately you are correct. Never buy meat on special. Tried it twice. Once whole chicken, and once pork. Off both times.

I shop where I want to shop, when I want to shop there! Your survey does not define me Mr @Bradley Prior . i identify as a free shopper, meaning i go to shopping malls and just get things from wherever I want to okay, last month me is not the same as this month me!

Checkers. They have more specials and discounts on the common/usual items we buy. I can easily make a comparison between several of the supermarket chains, because we have a fairly standard purchase list. Checkers almost always comes out the cheapest. They not so great on stocking and pricing luxuries, those I get at Superspar or Woolworths, but then I don't even look at bill, I just swipe and go.

Woolworths is so good, the only place I get any meat from as I trust their cold chain.
Checkers for lots of the branded stuff (Knorr, etc) that Woolworths doesn't keep.

Primarily Woolworths since I prefer the quality of their meat and the packaging, makes it easier to store. Their branded long-life milk is also somewhat cheaper than the other brands.
Secondary is Checkers for the rest of the items in my shopping list due to loyalty discounts and points along with the convenience of having my groceries delivered to my front door when I choose to avoid the crowds at the shop.
Might potentially add PnP to the list soon since they are the only supermarket in the area that still sell Cornish pies in bulk.

Spar is a no-go zone, even if they are the closest supermarket to me, since they stopped selling my favourite drinkable yoghurt. So I have no reason anymore to shop there. Beggars inside the shop that constantly approached me to sponsor their meals also contribute a lot to the reason I avoid the place.
