I lived in CPT and I can tell you its not the crime free/safe haven as you making it out.
Neither am I trying to make it out as a crime free / safe haven. Read my posts again.

To be exact I lived in the southern suburbs/Kenilworth at one point in time it was a safe place (about 7 years ago) but I slowly started seeing crime take over the southern suburbs, hijackings in broad daylight/armed robberies/killings...
Kenilworth is not so safe anymore, agreed.
Did you consider then moving to a still-safe suburb elsewhere in or around Cape Town?

This seemed to coincide with the increase of Nigerians moving into the southern suburbs.I now live in th UK more jobs/opportunities/more money, ya the weather is *** but I can always jump on a plane and fly to another country for a long weekend.
Along with 10 million other European tourists, yes.
Not to mention the arm and the leg it costs, even with our European incomes (and I'm not referring to the flight ticket costs).
SA was and is still so much cheaper.

So your answer is I must jump around cape town while I look for a safe place?
Its not just affecting kenilworth, I'm talking about the whole of the southern suburbs.

Are you insane cheaper??
For the same amount of money I spend for groceries in South africa I get far more over here in the UK.I went for holiday back home and I couldnt imagine how south africans can afford essentials when they are so expensive.

Only things that are cheaper is eating out and alcohol (with the prices back home im not suprised)

There are many people in the world in many great 1st world country cities also without income.
Besides, if you lived in Cape Town, would you have an income? I would.

I would have an income, but I'd prefer to pay the "safety tax" in live in Auckland. (and not have to worry if it's safe for my wife & child to walk in the CBD.)

By the way, did you even read the article?

It's a list, hardly an article
I ask you again, not just for myself but for the others here: please let us know in which part of Cape Town this happened. I.e. the specific suburb e.g. Observatory. Why are you so reluctant to provide helpful information? If we know where this happened, we could take this into account when moving there.

I don't know where they lived, I never visited them in Capetown.

Or did this never happen?

*Shug* Do you actually exist outside a government building in Pretoria?

They cited this as grounds for emmigration.

To quote the husband "I can't wait around for my daughter to be raped."

I have heard similer sentiments echoed by fathers of young girls.

Why choose UK when there is plenty of more beautiful and friendly countries around ? Except Scotland (especially the Highlands and Saint Andrew area) this is definitely not the country I will choose.

Firstly, it would not happen so often that you would have to "jump around" to a new place every month, and secondly, if you do your homework properly and utilise your contacts efficiently, you will find a better suburb in the next attempt, thus making it not necessary to jump away again for a long time.

Constantia?
Tokia?

Living expenses do not only consitute groceries.

Read the intro.

Well fine, but then you cannot argue against my claim (and Capetownguy's claim) that the crime in CPT is limited to certain select suburbs and areas, whilst in many other suburbs your chances are far less, can you? :)

They cited this as grounds for emmigration.

So have I.
Doesn't mean that if emmigration is the only option for 1 family, it should also be the only option for all other families in SA.

I take it you learned Spanish?

Anycase, in Cape Town you can basically walk out of your house straight onto the beach, and the sun always shines (sometimes with some wind, too)! :D

I didn't say that Cape Town has no crime problem.
I said it has less of a crime problem than JHB, if you live in the right suburb.

Anycase, my comment about you doing your homework was directed at your crime experiences in the southern suburbs. Now, you state you also lived in other suburbs. I reserve my comment about you doing your homework and await your reply regarding whether you had similar crime experiences in the cape flats or more particularly, northern suburbs.

You have no point, so the fact 10 people a day die in GP but only 8 die in CPT makes cpt the better choice?
These people are leaving the country because they don't want to deal with these stupid statistics.

Also you never answered my previous question, do you work for the SA governemnt?

Why only on a Sunday Afternoon? Auckland CBD is pleasant and safe during the week too.

Argue against what? Some Capetown suburbs have a smaller percentage of murders per day than others? That's common sense isn't it?

About 2000 murders per year in Capetown (about 10% of the national average) is obscene compared to Auckland's less than one a [-]day[/-] week average. Can't argue with that.

Yes.

But overseas people also have to deal with the statistics. You cannot escape the statistics. Even a 0.00001% chance of getting killed, still construe statistics. And while on the topic of statistics, do you know that statistically your chances of being hit by a terrorist attack or suicide bomber in London are much higher than in Cape Town?? :)

Also you never answered my previous question, do you work for the SA governemnt?
No.

You're kidding, rights? I thought it was cold and rainy (and flooding) in winter, and way too bloody hot in summer, with lots of fire.
