Is skinner and lancelot the same person?:eek: :D

Well said Lance/Skinner :)

I have no idea who Lancelot is, other than I saw the name a few times mentioned or maybe a few posts by him/her the last couple of months, that's all.

And I suggest you gather a positive and optimistic attitude about SA. It will work wonders for your chances of getting a better life in SA.

Are you a South African or a South African't?

South Africa is Zimbabwe no.2. There's no escaping that. Better live with it, or get out....

And salaries for specialised positions higher. Much higher.
Supply and demand. With most IT and engineering specialists leaving SA, those that stay behing get paid even more.

Please do me a favour and tell me why, with a masters degree in engineering I should bother to remain in a country that outright refuses me the opportunity to earn a decent crust. .

Huh, here I must step on your toes dude.
I know of a certain engineer, white and retired who was begged by a certain SA company to come assist with some consulting work for a certain project.

His hourly salary is a figure I won't mention, but it is fck$$$ing high.

Just a joke.

Its good to see your change of attitude. Negative people never make a positive difference :)

You are exaggerating. There are many places, mostly in the Western Cape, where the chances of the above misfortunes happening to you, are very very low.

I had some joker of a taxi driver attempt to pull me out of my car. My house was broken into numerous times.

Very very low? Tell that to the poor bugger that was murdered on the west coast this week. Presently the rates may be lower than the reef but for how much longer?

Strange, my Inbox is overflowing with requests for interviews and job offers in Cape Town. That is for the IT industry. I also know many engineers in SA that are racking it in.

Not in my experience. Are you calling me a liar? I was, in case you missed it, far from alone.

Are you aware that they work you to death in Western countries?
You have no time for nothing. Just work, work, and work. While paying a fortune on social taxes. With no friends, no family. Live in a small lousy flat like millions of others around you. Cramped public transport. People everywhere. Horrible weather. Soaring prices. Trust me, I've done it all.

So you are right and thousands of ex South Africans are wrong? I pay less tax here and I see where it goes and it ain't into MPs and their spouses/sisters/brothers bank accounts, the public transport is great. Lots of friends. large (but expensive) house. Millions? The standard if living here is HIGHER than in SA.

And I suggest you gather a positive and optimistic attitude about SA. It will work wonders for your chances of getting a better life in SA.

Don't patronise me. Do you really think I'm so stupid as to risk it again, based on my and many others experiences? If you do, then SA really is scraping the bottom of the barrel if it has to employ people possessed of the foresight of a mayfly (a trait deemed essential for ANC members BTW).

You may have had a crappy experience in your brief excursion overseas, but many skilled South Africans have had only good experiences. Perhaps it was your perpetual longing for your beloved rainbow nation that gave you an attitude that caused you to hate that experience with such passion.

 Last time I was walking through Stellenbosch (on the way to business meeting) I did open my eyes but saw only melon-chested university girls with tops that were barely able to hold their cleavage in place. Everyone was smiling and laughing. Restaurants and coffee shops filled with happy people. I did not see any African waiting behind a bush, jumping out and starting to rip everyone's guts out. Or police/military stopping in the white suburbs, telling residents and professors to leave their properties immediately. So tell me why is this like Zim?

it's a matter of time before we surpass zim on everything. it's the way every african country has gone. same tale...
You live in Gauteng, don't you?

+1000000 Confirmed.
I know many such people in SA. They are racking in the money. And living happily.

I think the people that complain are people that were/are not able to adjust themselves to living and working in the new SA.

And as I said, a positive and go-getter attitude goes a long way.

Well I will.

I know of 5 of my friends all under 24 ALL earning 30k a month.

Please don't come here with your bitter attitude.

Yes things are wild in africa, but running away to another country doesn't solve anything.

Ps. If you left south africa then you lose all right to comment on it seeing as you are nothing more than a fair weather-boy.

Whoop de doo! Same engineer can probably get a job in Zaire or whatever it's called this week. Contractors are all over Africa and the middle east. They fly in for the duration of their contract, earn muchos money and leave. You need people with a committment to the country. He's RETIRED for heavens sakes. He doesn't need to provide a future for his two white sons. Oh and when said institution or company is told they must cut back on white contractors? What then? It happened to me.

Many are Skinner racking (sic) it in. But equally many are not and are struggling and they are HIGHLY skilled and they have had enough of being treated like the cat dragged them in.

You know you really are a patronising little git. How dare you critisize me for my 'attitude'? You know jack about me, you might be surprised to find what my crappy 'attitude' achieved.

So you mentioned 2 examples. Out of a Western Cape population of I don't know, how many millions?

Not in my experience. Are you calling me a liar? I was, in case you missed it, far from alone.
You a liar? No. Are you calling me a liar?
Neither was I alone when I said I know many engineers that are successful in finding employment (and very well paid employment) in SA.

So you are right and thousands of ex South Africans are wrong? I pay less tax here and I see where it goes and it ain't into MPs and their spouses/sisters/brothers bank accounts
Less tax? You mean taxes on salary or taxes for social structures?

the public transport is great. Lots of friends. large (but expensive) house. Millions? The standard if living here is HIGHER than in SA.
Where is this?

Don't patronise me.

If you tell me that I am trying to patronise you and forcing you to return to SA, which seems to be the impression that I am getting, then I will tell you to stop patronising me and stop forcing me not to return to SA.
So, please stop.

You may have had a crappy experience in your brief excursion overseas
You have no idea how long I was or still am overseas. So don't base your following arguments on that assumption.

Perhaps it was your perpetual longing for your beloved rainbow nation that gave you an attitude that caused you to hate that experience with such passion.
No, actually it was my resistance to a couple of criminals, not even in my usually-home province in SA, that are trying to scare me out of my own country, my own culture, and force me to adapt a new culture in foreign countries. No thanks, I won't be forced, I won't run away, I will not let them stand in my way, I have a right to my own culture and my own life in SA, they cannot take that away from me.

Jesus, 12 years post ANC was enough. How many times do I have to hit my head against a wall Devill?

I still hold a ZA passport and contributed tax for 26 years and I will pass judgement when and as I feel fit. Deal with it. That's the ANCs attitude boyo. Keep it up and we'll see where you get.

TooFastTim: you seem to be having / had trouble getting an engineering job in SA.
May I ask: you have a qualification but do you have any work experience?

Whatever, dude, those of us leaving are not "fair weather-boys". We are not complaining, we are f*cking p*ssed off! I use to like this country, had everything going for me. I am financially in a very good position, now I have to pack up everything and move to a new country and start from scratch again. Why? Because I can see where this country is going, and I don't want to be here when it gets to that point. You can live in denial as much as you want. I can SEE what is happening around me. People tortured to death in their own homes, for crying out loud!! Where else on this godforsaken planet do you read about these things in your local newspaper. I can tell you now, if this was any other country, there would be a bloody uproar! Not here, here we just go back watching the rugby on our widescreen TV's with our DSTV, totally disconnected from what is happening around us. Do you even think twice about hearing of another murder, another rape? I don't think so, you have become so used to the status quo. Jeez, man, open your eyes and SEE! The lives we lead here are not normal, not by any stretch of the imagination.

I hope you see the light before the savages break down your front door and rape your wife after shooting you in the head.
