Who can you email to request a metro presence?

So every morning, the taxis are getting bolder with breaking the rules. These days they charge down mulders mile into oncoming traffic, and they don't even give way, the oncoming traffic has to move out of their way.

Look, I'm not kidding myself, I have first hand experience how useless our police are. But I want to have a written account that I have requested assistance in this matter.

Being a reasonable person, if assistance is not forthcoming we have no choice but to take things into our own hands. We can't let our suburban roads become death traps because a certain segment refuse to obey the law. I've now had a panga pulled on me twice and my parents have narrowly avoided an accident just after mulders mile where the taxis simply ignore the red light.

Can anyone suggest the best method to disable a taxi driver? Stun gun, pepper gun? I'm going to pull them off the road, disable them, and then wait for the cops to arrive. Evil triumphs when good men do nothing...

Get the contact details for the senior management of your Metro authority and start spamming them with requests, include a few journalists as well in the mail such as Wendy Knowler.

I used this to relatively good effect in Durban with the M4 North, taxi's were yellow lane driving like crazy, I mailed and mailed and now they do have guys in specific areas nailing yellow lane drivers.

Where would you get this?

Go to Yale, get one of those Tazers, either the ones on the long pole, or the gun that shoots, you want to be as far away as possible from them when they're angry, and then some pepper spray as a backup plan if they gang up on you. May the odds be ever, in your favour.

Speak to the taxi association. They fine the taxi owners - who in turn discipline the driver

Most taxis here have no sticker that they belong to an association. This sounds like a bit of a pipe dream to be honest.

I've always dreamed of some kind of device that will come out of my wheel arch and have just enough power to flatten the tyres of the taxis barreling down the yellow lane, but aim would be a problem, I'd have no problem shooting out their tyres, but I really do not want them to chase after me lol...

Take a video one morning thats good enought to see the drivers then put it on youtube and lay a charge of Reckless or negligent driving at the police station?

Get the press involved if the police are not forthcomming.

I read that 3rd party video evidence is not permissible at all for traffic offenses in South Africa.

They do have stickers - you must check closely. Remember, the taxis also monitor each other to make sure that taxi's from rival associations dont *steal their routes/passengers*. So any taxi thats loading passengers on any route can risk being shot or having the taxi impounded by the taxi association. They will never take that chance. The association fines a taxi thats on the road without a sticker & any taxi impounded also gets additional fines - thats because the guys also have taxis on the route. So anyone who's *stealing* their money will be harshly dealt with.

Strange as it may seem, taxis obey the taxi association law more than the traffic laws because its their livelihood. Taxi associations cannot be bribed because they also have their own taxis on the same route - cops can be bribed. Sad but true.

You could contact one of the popular morning shows and have them contact the metro police. The likes of 702 follow up so you can be sure something will be done, for a while at least.

Do it anyway, the publicity will force their (metro's) hand.

Just like violent protesting is the only way to really get government's attention, embarrassing them through the media might work.
