Hi,
I need something cleared in my mind.Who implements Port Shaping. Is it Telkom Transparent Proxy or is it one of the Ist Tier ISPs (SAIX,UUNET,IS)

Thanks

So even if u on a UUNET or IS adsl account do you still go thru the SAIX transparent Proxy rba-cache2-vif0.saix.net (198.54.202.130) ???

Nope ... there are different routes available, depending on how much your ISP is willing to pay.
You could get a 128KB/s telkom supplied diginet line that runs direct to NY.
This is one of my complaints about internet in this country ... there is an extreme lack of transparency so much so that you don't actually know what you're paying for.

Does IS or UUNET have a Transparent Proxy for their Second Tier Isp -if so surely Telkom would bust them cause its kinda illegal.

So to summize - if you using SAIX Proxy you going to get Shaped
if you get Somebody to setup a Private Proxy (ie a really kind ISP) then they could determine Protocol shaping.

Iam intrested in this because ive setup a very Basic Apache Http proxy thats running on a Diginet line

Shaping can also be a good thing, there is an app on the net called Cfos Speed. It syncs and schedules packets going through a PC onto any network. What Telkom/SAIX is doing is Port Prioritization. There is a big difference between these two technologies.
