My dad had his own small business ("blue collar"). He brought in enough to feed us and to put me through university. When he passed away about six years ago - he worked until his death age 72 from pancreatic cancer, there was no savings. My mom lives with my brother and his wife and I give my mom an amount for "pension" every month.

Mom has just enough saved for retirement and my dad popped himself when I was a kid. I guess that's the most affordable retirement plan there is.

Wow, this is rough. Is this really a thing though that the last born is responsible in your traditions?
Yes it is, all responsibilities will be left in your hands. But if parents have money the others will come and claim a chunk .... Luckly my parents were poor

Parents bought me a flat. Bought me my first car. Paid for a couple years of varsity. I got a bit of a silver spoon thing going.

I don’t expect to have to help them, but would do it without hesitation (well, help them with money, if they come for organs I'm not so sure).
They made your organs
