I got Iburst in July, using Kempton Tower and am very impressed and quite happy. Only thing I'm not too happy about is the high cost of bandwidth.

Maybe, if we can define the problems and also get an indication of how many of us are happy, perhaps the Iburst techices who do come here now and then will get a good idea of where else they can improve. IMHO, their call-centre has imporved somewhat. First few times I phoned never had any joy (sometimes there wasn't even an answer), now, all my queries are dealt with on second contact - great improvement.

Count yourself lucky.

This week I have been disconnected on average 3 times in every hour! Do you think that the helpdesk was helpful? Well I really cannot answer that as I have yet to recieve a response from any of them! 8 e-mails, 6 phonecalls and counting!!

well....Pretoria had a latency issue this monday to wednesday, but that seems to be fixed.
Last month I had very few problems.
The months before that with the cutting off of certain ppl and downtime/latency was bad. Atleast I can say for me the service has improved somewhat compared to months gone by. I almost cancelled iBurst with the cheap 30gb ADSL packages flying around, but decided against it after finding out about the whole pay per gig thing for 1 nov.

Over all I'm not happy at all with any SA broadband service, as I'm use to a 2mbps uncapped unshapped line.

Since yesterday (15th) at 20:26 I get disconnected every 2 - 7 minutes - Wonderboom BS, Pretoria. I've raised my UTD by about 500 mm and increased signal from -99 to -102 dB to -86 to -88 dB, but no luck. Worked fine before last night, although speed wasn't spectacular. :(

I have been having disconnection issues the whole week. Prior to this it happened at least 6 times a day.

Due to the fact that these arseholes are incapable of answering e-mails or returning calls, I have posted on the Hello Peter site and am drafting a letter to each and every publication I can think of.

I was happy with the service until yesterday (Only had it for 4 days though!) but now the speeds are terrible! Almost worse than my dial-up. I don't know if this is because I'm using it at 3pm. This is the earliest time I have ever used it, and I feel sorry for my mother who has to try and work on this connectio during the day and she pays R600pm for it!

elow is the data used to calculate your download speed:
Download time: 66.422 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 61.4 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 7.5 (kiloBytes/second)

had iBurst for 6 days now.... first 3 days were HELL... now its fine as I found the sweet spot for the UTD

The SAIX Backbone had data losses from last week friday to yesterday. (from 10% to 30%) so ADSL throughput was screwed most of the week too! .. there is no better EVIL

I think to summize:

Your happiness with iBurst is dependant on the sun-spot cycle and the effect of your wife's PMS ....

Good...Bad...Soso ... all in 1 day ...

In general I am happy with the service at present, BUT I must stress that been CUT OFF after reaching my cap is not acceptable.

I will see what happens this month in regards to the "cut off" and if that is sorted out then I can trully say wbs are starting to get it together.

I'm relatively happy ... the emphasis on relative ... relative to the fact that the only other connectivity I can get is ISDN or analog dial.

I dont have disconnects & throughput ~750Kbps. For surfing, email & vpn to the office its OK ... tho the initial pause on web page requests is a bit irritating. Skype & SIP work but quality not great due to latency & jitter.

That said, if I could get ADSL, I would switch without hesitation.

Ok change my vote to happy, it's 4pm (when businesses stop working, mostly) and the connection is back to normal, it was very irratating but that was the first time that I have experienced a slowdown and normally I am actually happy, downloads from all servers at 100-120kb. No disconnects in five days of straight running, and 6.5km from base station with antenna.

So I'd say my experience has been good overall, however the delay before web pages open can be quite bad, kinda defeating the point of an fast expensive broadband connection, I'm sure something can be done about this!

Incredibly unhappy at the moment, and angry!

Just calculated from IPCop logs that I get disconnected on average 45 times / hour since last night 20:26... Most connections don't even last a minute!

Done the obvious things like restarting, checking signal strength, etc...

[Edit] BTW, I have 2 GB left...

Depends. If I'm at home (northcliff), during the day, I'd rather dial up with my 64K ISDN, its that bad. If I'm at university (university jhb, auck park campus), it's 100% (100k+), if I'm at work (morningside/sandton), I use ADSL - They're about the same but the packet loss + latency on iburst just annoys me. So ... like someone else said, it depends on location and the frequency of the polarised carbon atoms travelling towards the modem :)

Cheers

Kingmonty ... why bother? ...

All the threads about how "great" iburst is reminds me sooo much of another wireless provider "planting" threads to increase public perception .... maybe I'm just paranoid ;-)

As with ANY wireless service everyone will have good and bad days irrespective of tower/signal.

The Pro's are straight forward ... so are the gripes ... simply review the threads on here....

Have you tried using Mozilla Firefox? I use to get a problem with IE after being capped where some pages won't open, but since I started using Firefox I have'nt had a problem surfing after being capped :D

And let me just say WOW since when did iburst join our forums? Mr. iBurst himself. I must say it's definatly a good thing to have iburst's presence here. Definatly a step in the right direction. :p Mayb one day the capped speed will be increased to 128kbps when the 2mbps service comes into being. :D *hint hint*

Glad to have you join the forums Mr. iburst ;)

Ditto. I've been using iBurst since April and my experience has been very good. The bandwidth is too expensive though so I getting adsl rather. I'll hang on to my modem and if November turns into a disaster I'll just go back to iburst again.
