There was ATM cash withdrawals on my Debit card but I had my card in my possession. Canceled the card and informed my bank who opened an investigation. In case the bank acknowledges my card got skimmed, who will pay for ATM withdrawals? Me or the bank/bank's insurance?

Their insurance should pay. Got R8K stolen like that a couple of years ago. Bank gave everything back in less than 2 weeks. Card was cloned at an ATM.

Ex Colleague had about 14K worth of stuff "stolen" via his card around 2012 after he went to the movies at Monte Casino. ABSA paid everything back to him. Should be the same for you, surely.

Mine iis just over R5k. I was smart enough to use the ATM and print a slip with trans # after finding out so I would need to be superman to travel between ATMs that fast.

Good thinking.

Funny. Seems there's a common denominator here. Starts with A...

Depends how it happened, the last time my card was compromised the bank refunded me everything except the first R1,000 for which I was partially responsible.
They should gather all of that info from the fraud refund application form.

Curious to know how you were partially responsible for the first R1 000 to get stolen. Did you give it to the thief voluntarily?

How were you partially responsible? Please teach us senpai, we do not want to suffer the same fate.

The thief downloaded the app suite onto their phone and then sent me an approve it message to enable the app suite for prepaid purchases.
I stupidly clicked yes on the Approve-it message - although in my defense they had engineered it so that I thought the approve it message was for something else.
So Nedbank's fault was that the approve it message was vague and did not indicate what I was actually enabling.

Beware, certain banks allow users to activate the app suite for prepaid purchases with only your cell number.
It won't ask you or them for your profile password.
They say that this is so that users who do not have online profiles can activate for prepaid purchases.
But it's a massive security hole if you ask me.

I was led to believe that the approve-it message was for a REFUND to my credit card.

Wow. That's stupid.

Luckily with Capitec I can't activate anything without my fingerprint. A bit more hassle, but a lot more secure.

About 4000 was withdrawn from my Virgin Money CC a couple of years ago. Virgin paid it it back within a few days and reversed the atm charges as well.
