Wholewheat bread

So I've just noticed that even on breads like Albany's Seeded Low GI brown bread, the main ingredient is white bread flour. I am wanting to eat as many whole foods as possible and therefore need to find a bread that is baked with whole wheat flour.

Does anyone know of such a bread available from the major grocery stores? I haven't had a chance to go and read ingredients on all the various breads yet, and am wondering if there's even anything out there, or if all the "whole wheat" breads at the stores aren't actually whole wheat at all.

I'd love to be wrong, but I'm under the impression that almost all bread from the major bakeries is baked with white refined flour. The so-called browns and wholewheats just have colourant and grains added back in to look good. Refined white flour is much cheaper, and keeps better.

I doubt you'll have any luck with the major grocery stores.

I notice that even Eureka Mills simply adds bran to their white flour to get brown. Email Eureka and find out how they make their wholemeal flour?

If they do it to your liking, you could then try contacting a nearby baker on this list and see if they make something using the Eureka Wholemeal flour. http://www.eurekamills.co.za/bakeries.php

Have you considered a breadmaking machine? Assuming you can find the flour you're happy with.

Why do you want to consume whole wheat? Whole wheat contains more phytic acid and other "anti nutrients" than the refined product. Refined wheat may be a lesser evil!

Saying that whole wheat is healthy because it’s better than refined wheat is like saying that filtered cigarettes are healthy because they’re better than unfiltered cigarettes.

Not fact, Brown bread made from Brown bread flour is non vatable. The correct question would be what is Brown flour . Flour milled from wheat, the first layer is cake flour (least nutritional), then white flour, then Brown, the remainder is bran. Self raising flour is cake flour with baking powder pre added.

It seems that way! Will let you guys know after visiting the shops later. Otherwise a bread machine is looking good.

Texture is different though. And comes out different when toasted.

Adding some bran(semels), like the stuff they put into Boerewors, to make up volume, will easily give you that texture and look. But like I said, not all are dyed.

What they call wholewheat bread is still much tastier and more filling than plain white bread. Unless it is the placebo effect :wtf: ...
