Who'll win the Tablet OS war?

Zenithink (from Shinzen) , they got the right hardware and are updating their Android builds on a monthly basis, it just keeps getting better. This is if you want to spend under 2k for a tablet :D

Otherwise, it will probably end up being the war we have with current systems, one shows alot of hope then another improves (talking about processor speeds etc on desktops / laptops here).

There can never be a definitive winner or else it will just end up being boring :p

Look out for quad-core Tablets in the Q4 of this year...

I have no doubt that Android will clean up this market.

I have put my money where my mouth is, my Motorola Xoom is en route.

Just read Anand Lal Shimpi's thoughts on it (AnandTech) and he reckons it's cool to use for surfing the web and read emails, but he ends up going back to his notebook if he has lengthy emails to write, or want to reply to a few emails.....

I agree with that, but as far as I am concerned an important use for tablets is to read newspapers - you just can't do that effectively on any PC.

Tablets don't replace PC's, they complement them !

Anyway, with many tablets you can use keyboards (eg Motorola Xoom)

My money would be on MS ... if they can create a viable touchscreen experience for Win 7/8. After all a high-end tablet (with the full power/usability of Win) will still be cheaper than laptop + tablet.

there were always plenty of hardware vendors who were happy to slap Windows onto a minimum spec machine and let the consumer wonder why the thing ran slower than a chicken through molasses.

SOOOOOOOOO true!! and well Android FTW!!

I have both, I must say I enjoy my android and iPad. Android is nice to hold with one hand, small enough to carry. I use my iPad for games and web browsing. 10" screen is just superb.

iPad for battery life and screen quality / size. 10 hour battery life
Android for ease of use, free apps and nice for emails. 5-7 hours battery life

My 2cents

Microsoft has been trying since 2001 to get the tablet thing going, so in 10 years they still could not do what Apple did in 1 year, I would say they lost the fight loooong ago.

That makes it a race against Android, Apple, WebOS and RIM.
Looking at price currently Apple is winning but that's exactly the same thing that happened to the phone market, Android only came to be like a year after iOS hit the world.
My guess would be android is gonna take this one as well.

It would probably be best to pontificate on this issue when there is actually some competition to Apple. It's a wash at the moment.

Yes, this will be interesting.

Personally I have just bought a Motorola Xoom as it seems to be way better than an iPad 2. YMMV.

Sleep deprivation does weird things to my mind - I didn't mean that it is a wash. To rephrase - Apple is crushing everyone in the space, so lets wait and see if one of these companies figure out how to compete.

Let's compare sales figures at the end of the next two quarters then revisit this.

I'm sure Apple will win because they have the sales infrastructure at present.

But in a year or two Android tablet sales will surpass Apple's tablet sales - mark my words !
