Last thing we need;
Ever seen indian roads? Diesel is much worse smog wise.

Most taxis are petrol, becuse unlike some other country we are free for all with public transport,

You could use a rolls royce as a minibus taxi if you wanted to....

Also i belive the hiace that was assembled here wernt provisioned for diesel engines..

Quite a few of the modern Toyota diesel engines ( corrolla,hilux) are being 'transplanted' into taxi's now after having been liberated from their legal owners.

No offense to OP but dumb thread is dumb.

I pretty much *only* see diesel Quantums used as death-wagons.

For private use I see more petrol models.

You've never heard the screaming banshee noise of a fscked turbo?

Need to drive around JHB some more me thinks.

They're all petrol in the Cape.

Probably saves us having to breath black sooty smog.

I'd also say by some margin most Quantums are petrol. There are some diesels around.

Most taxis drive short distances in stop-go traffic for most of their lives. That is THE worst kind of driving for a turbo diesel. Petrol engines would last much longer in these conditions.

I would think it's go to do with up-keep. It's cheaper to maintain a petrol engine as opposed to a diesel engine.

Pretty sure a diesel went passed me in Bellville last week. As it went passed I thought you don't see too many diesel taxis.

Diesel is more economical for long distances; not for the stop-start operations of taxis. Although, a diesel engine has more torque and produces it lower down, to haul the (m)asses.
