Why can you not upgrade Vista to Win 7 in SA?

Tell me something, is Microsoft ACTIVELY trying to get people to pirate their software?!

I was shocked to find out that apparently, you cannot upgrade from Vista Business to Win 7 in South Africa. What the hell is going on here?

I phoned both Frontosa and Incredible Corruption and they both say the same. Is there something I am missing here?

AFAIK Vista Business can be upgraded. Vista Basic cannot.

Best to do is to contact M$ self and ask them - they will know, after all, it's their software.

I know where the confusion is... MSFT SA only sells retail and DSP licenses and not the upgrade licenses like the rest of the world. No need to throw your toys, you will be able to upgrade with a retail license and one can upgrade from from Vista Home Basic.

I upgraded my Vista Business package without a problem...

In fact the company handling the upgrade (they're Scandinavian iirc) were really helpful. Found it - the company's name is Arvato, but I think they might only handle HP upgrades...

The point is I dont want to pay for a retail copy if I can just buy a cheaper upgrade package. I mean, why pay full price when you can do it cheaper?!

I ordered upgrades from the USA, technically they are supposed to be used in the USA, but I could activate them here and they work fine.

It's crazy, I don't know what the hell Microsoft SA think that they are doing !

You could just buy an OEM/DSP package (costs about the same as an upgrade in the USA), if you can get a dealer to sell you one without a new computer. But it's not strictly legal.

It's for a client, and re-installing all of his software is not something he wants to do. Just retarded how MS forces this.

If you're upgrading a DSP licence for your client then you really are doing them a disservice

How so? We all know Vista was a failure, allowing upgrades from Vista machines (dsp or not) should be the least MS can do to make up for their crappy OS.

They even included free XP downgrade discs to acknowledge this fact.
