Why can't we buy data/airtime from an internet banking site if we've run out?

There is still no way to buy data/airtime if you've run out. What if you're in an emergency situation?

No sorry we're Vodacom/MTN/Cell C and we refuse to make anyone's life easier, even if it means increased sales for us.

You have to physically go to a shop and buy.

Why not open up access to the major banking sites in SA so people can buy data/airtime to use on YOUR NETWORK. Think a little.

112 is toll free.

Otherwise one can also sent a Please Call Me to someone. Can also do the airtime advance thing (with Vodacom at least). Another option is contract if running out is such a big problem/risk or always just having so much airtime on prepaid it can't (R50 airtime gives 63 minutes of calling on the R0.79 plans). Can also have a second small cellphone with much airtime on and data disabled. Many ways to skin the cat, and be innovative ourselves.

It's vaguely conceivable that your bank might have a small say in this, so why not ask them?

:wtf:

I've been able to buy airtime or recharge from Standard Bank Internet Banking for years. Or am I missing something here, OP?

The OP wants to use the banking sites on his cellphone after he has run out of data/airtime, so as to buy more. Basically zero rated data for banking.

Oh, I forgot, with Vodacom you can buy airtime over *111#, using your debit/credit card (list of supported banks is there too).

How bout them apples?

Damn - so I was missing something. OP could have been a bit clearer...

Or you could move to ABSA

Data usage on the app is reverse charged to ABSA.

No, it's nothing to do with the banks themselves, it's just about the networks giving you access to the banks even when you have no data.

On FNB you can use the USSD menu by dialing *130* 321# to buy airtime, when you have no airtime or data left.

FNB uses cell phone banking based on USSD technology so you can buy airtime. I do it all the time.

You can also use USSD for Standard bank.

CellC has an emergency airtime option for prepaid users.
Dial *147# and select emergency airtime It starts from R3 all the way to R100.

You get charged R1 service fee

This! Between it and internet banking I can't remember the last time I bought airtime over the counter.. at least 4-5 years back?!
