Why Cape Town won't approve off-grid inverters for grid-tied solar installations from October

The City of Cape Town will stop approving off-grid inverters for use in solar backup systems to curb faulty and dangerous installations of these inverters in households that remain connected to the grid.

Due to the increase in load-shedding, the city has seen a massive surge in applications for grid-tied solar and backup systems, with an average of over 1,000 per month in 2023 compared to 100-200 a year ago.

Always the few spoiling it for the rest. If you have an off grid system use a changeover switch or... you know... go off grid.

They call it off grid but the units they mentioned are either UPS or hybrid. Then they blame incorrectly installed units for the issue. The real issue sounds like dodgy installers and certification authorities refusing to remove their certifications.
Its probably far more risky to install a hybrid inverter incorrectly than a off grid one.

"pointing out that the hybrid inverters on the city’s approved list were substantially more expensive than off-grid models"

But why?

Goodness me.

If this is not a clickbait headline, then what is?

"Why Cape Town is banning off-grid inverters for solar installations."

but then:

"It will also not apply to scenarios where residents completely sever their homes from the grid."

Incorrect installations are definitely part of the problem, but I would imagine off grid is another part...
Which ones did they mention?

Seems reasonable considering the latter is a tiny percentage.

Look at all the suckers swallowing the DA`s socialist scum.
Benedict don't be an a55h0le. We all know the DA can never do anything wrong. Like all politicians the world over they are perfect and beyond reproach even though they are exactly the same, all of them.

The DA will never be accepted in a country where the majority has more than half a brain cell. Politician`s are scum, but socialist politicians are the worst scum.

 LOL - guess it's only a matter of time before this poef blows over to Stellenbosch and Bergrivier municiplaties unfortunately.
I think it is already there. The DA passed a bylaw that bans the disconnection from Eskom corruption (going off-grid). CoCT is the worst, but it is probably implemented in every district that is subject to DA socialist oppression.

You're like a stuck record. Except it's stuck at the end and just makes that clicking sound. White noise.
