Left my first job at a PC company in Alberton due to dishonesty I saw happening there. They where fencing stolen goods etc. Company got shut down by the cops a few months after I left. Then I studied and of my jobs since then I worked as a consultant until a client I was doing a project for approached my company to take me over (this without my knowledge). So my consultancy came to some arrangement and fired me and gave me the offer from the client so its the weirdest firing I have ever heard of. Anyways, worked out OK and I am still with that client 6 years later.

Question which I was wondering about recently..
Recently though I'd leave because I was seen as a object and not a person and Political BS in the office.

This is the reason I'm looking to leave my current job. I was moved from being the head of a small business unit within our company to a larger business unit where I am expected to assist (i.e carry:whistling:) the business unit head who is only in her position because of political BS

^ This. Happens quit often if you work at a place for a long time and have hard-worker reputation. You become the ol'-trusty donkey.

And when you are no longer willing to carry the load you are accused of being difficult

Last job - too much travel. I was supposed to be in the office most of the time, occasionally going on-site to troubleshoot or work with some developers as a Systems Analyst. Instead I ended up spending 9 months on a mine in the middle of nowhere. (Ok - not middle of nowere, but by some freak of cartography, 135km from anywhere. Thabazimbi, look it up.)
And I was basically used as a highly paid technician. My marriage was suffering, kids were unhappy. When I threatend to resign a load of promises were made, that did not materialise. To add insult to injury - I got a new manager that had the people skills of a 6 year old.
The last straw was a support call on my day off - that after 5 hours turned out to be a non-event.

I took up a position as contractor at another company, dusted off 12 months of development cobwebs and shopped around for a better fit.
Contract ended, and I recently started a very nice position as a integrations specialist in a fast growing company, in a field that interests me (We put the boom in... boom!:D)

More money and the possibility to grow more, which currently does not really look like it.

Yeah they sell most places with the : HUGE growth potential angle.

Money is great and important when you have responsibilities but don't you ever worry you'll end up sticking in a *** job just because of the pay?

Boredom is rife though..This a good enough reason to leave.

I hated the culture. It stifled innovation. Felt like a drone, had to do only what I was told to do, no scope for anything else.

Left the last company because I was pretty much lied to about the scope of the job and I become a highly paid PC Support Technician who would sit on my arse for 7 hours of a day doing buggerall.... got so damn bored.

Headhunted, 80% less travelling, more innovative culture, alignment with my choice of studies.

Place I'm currently at gives me rubbish responsibilities that aren't software development related which takes up 90% of my time so I don't get to do my real job. They also promised me the IT Manager position and then just got some outsourced company to handle most of the work so now they call me the "IT Manager" but I have absolutely 0 say in anything and it's my job to send these outsourced morons an e-mail every time someones pc won't connect to the internet (every 30 minutes or so).

Needless to say I'm job searching...
