It was my first job out of uni. Been there for just over 2 years. Was a small company and they brought in this senior dev and paid for his relocation costs which meant no raises for us. And then I left. 7 months later the company closed down so I dodged a bullet.

Looking back they did me a favour though. It was time for me to leave anyway (and PE sucks ballz so coming to JHB was a plus) :D

Because I was made to believe there were more opportunities at the new job. Pay was better too.

But now I am in the position where things drastically changed over the last three years. Boss wasting money on schemes, holidays, cars for children, etc. while we struggle to pay creditors and thus there have also been no raises for the last three years... I also recently became a dad so my priorities changed and it made me realise that I was being naive to think things will ever get better here or the empty promises made 8 years ago will suddenly by honoured.

So now I am actively looking for something else. But it is a battle in the current market.

So that also answers the next thread - "Why are you looking for new work" :p

I got lied about my job duties and salary. Ended up cleaning up the mess of my manager who was 100% incompetent in his job and senior management did not want to remove him even though they did eventually promote me to his level.

Question which I was wondering about recently..

Earlier it was because of a wider range of opportunities; in actual fact only moved because of this from all my jobs.
Recently though I'd leave because I was seen as a object and not a person and Political BS in the office.

Why did you leave?

Needed to get a better paying job and I was looking do something more in line with what I was / still am studying.

10 Month contract. I left my job before the contract to gain some exposure and experience.

My career taught me two things. Moving jobs with the primary reason as money, is stupid. No salary can justify a ****ty job.

The second thing. Your job title means absolutely nothing. So does your job role. In SA, you are expected to do more. Just keep evidence of the other things you do beyond your job role, during PD time

Bonus tip. Have a career strategy. I only started mine 6 years ago and it is only paying off now

I left due to combination of struggling company (having to take pay cuts) and being in a dead end position. The problem with smaller companies is you end up working directly below the CEO/CIO which implies there's not exactly a growth path. Also CEO/CIO don't always seem to be concerned with HR related things like training and skills development of their employees, so i realised i'm digging my own grave staying in one place. So after a few years i realized i am doing the exact same work i did when i started at the company without any hopes of doing anything else., and i made a move.

Wow! This is why I love MyBB.

Thank you for all the guys who got in contact with me and wanted to help with possible vacancies at their companies.

Unfortunately nothing in my line of work but I am truly humbled by the helping hands out there!
