Mr Peters,

I refer to ADSL installation order XXXXXXX-XX and your email below confirming the installation date of 19th May 2006.

Due to your email confirming the installation date of 19th May 2006, I cancelled all my meetings for today, and took a day’s leave to ensure that I would be at the premises to meet the Telkom technician when he came through to eventually finalize the long overdue installation of this ADSL line (when I applied for ADSL on 06th November 2005, I was told it would take 6 weeks to install)

Much to my horror (and, understandably, disgust), when the Telkom technician arrived to install the ADSL line, he told me that there was no link from the ADSL box outside the complex to the exchange. The technician phoned someone at Telkom who told him that my installation had been ‘booked onto a project’ to connect to the exchange, and was therefore NOT actually ready to be installed. This leads me to ask a few questions, namely –

1) How can I be given a CONFIRMED installation date for the ADSL line when the link to the exchange is not even in place ?
2) Assuming that I was ‘booked onto this project’ AFTER the installation date was set (which seems to be the case, as confirmed by Joe at Customer care – ARSxxxxxx), how come no-one is able to phone me on my cell phone or home number or send me an email, to let me know that there has been a delay and that the installation will NOT occur on 19th May 2006 ?
3) What is the completion date for this ‘project’ that my application has been booked onto?
4) After this ‘project’ is complete, how much longer will I still have to wait before my ADSL line is installed ?
5) Who will be apologizing and explaining to me and my manager the reason for me unnecessarily taking a day’s leave and thereby wasting a day’s work ?
6) And finally, assuming that I do eventually get this ADSL line installed, if (heavens forbid) there should be a fault with this line at a late stage, is this the same level of service I can come to expect in getting the line repaired?

Your immediate response would be appreciated.

Regards,
Roger

Mr Peters

I refer to the installaion of an ADSL at my premises, order number XXXXXXX-XX. The last time I phoned Telkom for an update on this order, I was told that it had been booked for the technicians to install at my premises on Friday 19th May 2006. However, no-one from Telkom actually phoned me to arrange this date.

As I work in Pretoria, I will have to arrange to take the day off to meet Telkom at my premises for the ADSL install. I would not want to take the day off without confirmation from Telkom that they will indeed be there on the date specified.

Therefore, please could you or someone from the installation department please confirm to this email address, or by phoning me on XXX XXXXXXX, and confirm that they will indeed be at my premises on 19th May 2006 to complete the ADSL install.

Many thanks and best regards,
Roger

because you can get anything from double to quadruple the amount of bandwidth you pay for. and in the end, when you go with a different SAIX ISP, the money still ends up with SAIX (Telkom).

I see. Fair comment. I suppose the only option is a non-SAIX account, which really means IS, and i spose i cant really advodate them after their recent(and i mean this year) problems!

06-03-06 - Called Customer Care, spoke to Jane. Got an ARS number. 'They will escalate and speed things up'. I think the poor lady was shocked when I packed up laughing at that comment.
Called Many times....
27-03-06 - Phoned 4 update. 'Port HAS apparently already been assigned. Will get an update and phone back.'
30-03-06 - Phoned 4 update. 'Port has been allocated on 29th. Putting pressure on someone to finalize install.'
03-04-06 - Phoned 4 update (3 times). 'Problem with the line. Status - 'Hand back' to planning department.' Someone will phone me back in 24 to 48 hours.' Whatever.....
06-04-06 - Phoned 4 update. Spoke to John. 'Status is 'handback to planning department' because there is a fibre line involved, and so things are handled differently.' Got contact details - Nur, Manager of Eurika (from ADSL installs)
07-04-06 - Sent email to Eurika. she read it but no response.
10-04-06 - Phoned Customer Care for update. 'Ningi had updated call that they waiting for feedback. They will ask Ningi to phone me back.' Do people still actually BELIEVE that ?????.
10-04-06 - Phoned 4 update. On hold for 20 minutes and then they transfer me to the %^&%$^&%^& ADSL helpdesk, which IS FOR THE LUCKY %$^#^^^&%$ WHO ALREADY HAVE ADSL, NOT FOR THE UNLUCKY %$^%#&^& WHO CANT FIND ANYONE #%$#^$& COMPETENT ENOUGH AT TELKOM TO %$&^%%* INSTALL A LINE FOR HIM. Went outside and took my frustration out on an innocent trashcan.
10-04-06 - Phoned 4 update. On hold for 20 minutes. Whoever answered the call just hung up without saying anything. Another innocent trashcan gets trashed.

18-04-06 - Phoned 4 update. Spoke to Dane.He apparently spoke to Wayne. Wayne now says the ADSL ports will only be available on 20th of May (this according to planning department). I thought my port was already friggen assigned to me ?!?!?!?
18-04-06 - Phoned Customer Care. Ningi asked for update on 10 April but nothing. Apparently head office in Randburg will phone me back.
24-04-06 - Phoned 4 update. Nadda, Zip, Zero, Nutting
10-05-06 - Phoned 4 update. Was told they're coming to install on 19th May. This without them actually phoning me to arrange this as a suitable a date !!!!!
15-05-06 - As no-one has actually phoned me from technical dept. to confirm the installation on 19th, i sent an email to Nur Peters. He replied with confirmation of hte install date.
19-05-06 - Techie came through to install ADSL. Reports they have not yet install a link from the DCS to the @*##%& exchange, so he can't install my ADSL !!!!!!!!!!!
19-05-06 - Phoned Customer Care. Apparently Leon is dealing with the call. Got transferred to Leon. He says he isn't. Go direct number for Ningi. Phoned that number and got voicemail.... she is on leave until 6th June (no wonder I never get a response from her). Got and phoned Ningi's mobile number. Ningi Referred me to 0800 600 126. Spoke to Maude. She put me through to Joe. Joe knows just as much as every one else. Nadda, Zip, Zero, Nutting. Application has been booked to a 'project'. Unknown completion date on project.
23-05-06 - Phoned for update. None to be given. "Have asked for a completion date for cable project. Will get one in 24 to 48 hours". Yeah right, of course you will. And then you'll phone me back with an update, right? Whatever.....

If i could get decent signal from a wisp, I would've given up with telkom LONG ago. tried them all, *** signal.

 seeing as I live just under a kilometre from uunet's NOC in Rivonia / morningside, it would be quicker (and end up cheaper too with the amount of money i spend phoning telkom for updates) for me to run my own underground fibre link directly onto the uunet backbone :p
