Seriously? What have I done to deserve this ....

In 2006 I took a big decision and quit my job of 15 years without having a new job. From a friends reference I got the most awesome job heading my own department. Over time though management made some bad decisions and drove the company into business rescue. I was hunted by the owner of another co which I'd known for years. However, they turned out to be a nazi *****. In the mean time I'd run into one of the directors of my previous co. who offered me a job. So I took it and all was well. Close to home, great atmosphere ect. But, one or two major orders run bad and suddenly the co. is in hard times ....

Already haven't literally had an increase
in pay in 5 years (always looking ahead).

So in the last few days I'm looking at debt orders trying to find ways to save a few bucks. Yesterday I cancelled two policies. Then in the very next email I'm told my life insurance is increasing by that same amount ... WTF!

Today I'm thinking about slower ADSL so that in 4 months I can buy myself something when the MD calls me into the boardroom ....

"The company is battling" so you have a choice. A 50% reduction in salary for the next 3 months or you can leave ...

Thing is .... my wife is 20 weeks pregnant ...

What have I done to deserve this?

....

Sorry to hear bud, all I can suggest is to - and I know its a cliche - stay positive, you can only go up from this point.

Also on a side note, I think you might wanna see about your wife being pregnant for so long :p

Sorry to hear that. On the plus side you seem well connected and highly sought after so that gives you a good advantage over the avg bloke.

Why not start looking at a larger corporate, instead of these smaller companies that seem to be constantly struggling?

What makes you think the MD will cut your salary?

Sorry to hear about your dilemna. Hope the situation improves by the time your little one arrives.

Companies that attractive higher than normal salaries to new entrants are not usually the best companies to work for and you have to wonder how they are managing their salary budget. Over time they offer smaller increases to keep within financial targets.

It sounds like your company is cutting salary costs to keep up with operating expenditure. Do you have confidence they'll pull through once they have adjusted salaries for 3 months?

for a moment i thought you were married to an african elephant - hell, only 2 more months & you would have had kids

Ah ok, missed that part.

Listen duel the best thing you can do is talk about stuff that's eating you up. From personal experience problems always seem so much worse when you're dealing with alone or bottling it in.

Do something positive, start looking for another job and keep trying to move forward.

Better start looking quickly, 50% reduction is insane :wtf:
Isn't it also illegal? Or more accurately...they'd need to persuade you to agree "voluntarily".

Getting dismissed might actually work out better financially. Think the UIF etc is based on *last* paycheck? Either way I'd crunch the numbers carefully.

Will look into that.

Yeah don't sign anything, once you have you become party to it and you won't have a leg to stand on.

What is that legal department in the SA for labor disputes? Can't think of the name. You need to contact them ASAP don't lie down and take it simply because they say so, it sounds like they are bullying you into signing something which is going to screw you over.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, been through the same ****.
Having to sue ex partners for profits after selling company - could go either way and haven't that amount of cash that the case could cost
Wife been struggling with the big C for 5 years now
Haven't had a increase in 7 years
Haven't had a bonus in 7 years
Worst thing that gets to me is these fat cats in government whom aren't worthy of anything except prison.

But I know there are lots worse off than me so, chin up do your best and keep your slate clean and un-tarnished.

my wife is 20 months pregnant

Does that mean next month it's 1 year old in the womb?
Or does counting starts from where s/he exits?

I'm only trying to make light of the situation :/

Sorry to hear about your issues - I left a job of 6 years to join what I thought was a fantastic job, but after a few months I realised lack of support from management and it became unbearable. I jumped ship after 7 months and already at my new job I've got a slight nagging at the back on my head ...
