Telkom says that 2Meg is the maximum that your phone line supports because you live too far from the exchange. WTF Telkom!!!
I live in Brackenfell, Protia Heights which is not even far from the exchange less then 5KM.
Another person who I know who lives less then 2KM from the post office (stays behind the police station) in Brackenfell, Also "apparently" stays to far from the exchange.
Telkom get your act together, your not America thus everything you do doesn't have to be a cover up!
Oh and I did phone Telkom and they say "No, there is no plans in the future to get better internet to your neighborhood" but there a new high school in the street as me "PHAMS" that got a fiber line run to the school directly. Ring Ring Telkom 1 Fiber line can support more then 1 signal. Maybe if you stop cutting costs and increasing unneeded bonuses if you can't even do your job right what is the bonus for.
Oh and before I forget can you stop the advert for the new 10 Megs LIGHTSPEED FIBER. For 2 reasons, 1. Star Wars is already old and seen by even the poor in the DRC thus it's just making you guys look stupid. 2. 10 or 100 megs/sec internet is what the Americans call the budget bundle so unless you guys and tell us some proper info in your adverts such as Down/Up link speeds and not "Its super fast" because not everyone is like you Telkom. We actually have an IQ that is above 100 and we also have the new thing for you especially something we call an education.
Thanks for corrupting our country even more Telkom and have a nice day.

I sorry if some people find this offensive or are hurt by my harsh tone but I had to let off steam from all the crap service I've been getting.

Are there not reputable WISP's in CT? Off the top of my head I am thinking of Wibre, Sonic, Nexus and Snowball.

In Monte Vista, also same max=2M story from Telkom, ended up going with a WISP (Sonic Wireless at 5M down 1M up for R899pm).
Cancelled my telephone (never use it, only time I use it is to call Telkom to complain about "line not working"), never been happier :)

Many people have this problem and you do have a few options.

-You can go Wisps http://www.wapa.org.za/coverage/request/ (don't use Amobia). Expensive for what you get but you can at least get an average 4/10mbs line.
-Telkom uncapped LTE http://www.telkom.co.za/today/unlimited-broadband/ if you can get this in your area. 50gig p2p (torrents) and a 2 year contract but can get speeds of up to 100m/s.
-3G internet https://www.axxess.co.za/mobile-data or https://www.afrihost.com/site/product/mobile_data?src=website_nav if you don't need a lot of data.
-Go out and rally your community to get fibre http://www.lightspeed.co.za/home_users.php these guys offer the easiest way to get fibre.
-Move to an area with good internet.

I moved :)

I just had a quick look on Sonic Wireless's website they seem good but on there uncapped deal for 5Meg, What is the limit until you get throttle. Since Netflix is now available in South Africa they say you need a bare minimum of 5Megs for HD streaming and 20Megs for 4K streaming (True 4K 4096x2160). I was wondering if there was a limit.

At 5km from the exchange, 2mbps is the best you're going to get out of ADSL, and that's assuming that the cable is in good condition.

Further, you can get fibre, you just need to pay for it. The school almost certainly had to pay a hefty installation fee, quite possibly (probably even) to someone not related to Telkom in the least.

Also, you're not necessarily connected to your closest exchange, nor do all post offices contain exchanges. Cables aren't pulled as the crow flies either, so unless you have the cable schematics, you can't say for certain what distance you are from the exchange.

It sucks, but I doubt Telkom is actively trying to screw you over here.

Your physical distance from the exchange has nothing to do with how long the copper is from your house to the exchange. In theory you could live right across the road from an exchange, but the copper could be many km's long.

Not too sure, though my average usage is around 200~220GB p/m and don't feel no throttled/shaped, even during the day (healthy torrents run smooth and streaming YouTube/9gag tv also seems fine). Don't use netflix so not too sure how it'll perform, though I do use Kodi and that also runs smoothly.

I stream YouTube 720p fine without buffering, however I normally choose 480p as I don't see much difference in quality, and it also gives me spare bandwidth to do some browsing and downloading at the same time.

You can get Netflix in 1080p with DD5.1 on 5 Meg. I get that on my 4meg line syncing at 5120Kb/s and easy 720p with DD5.1.
On a clean 2Meg you can get 720p on Youtube.

There seems to be a random section with no vdsl :/ Screen Shot 2016-03-29 at 5.27.30 PM.png

Coverage map isn't always correct. Case in point, where I live in Pretoria. Dead centre in big chunk of green, but still connected to the main exchange a good 3km or so away.
