Why does telkom say "You can't upgrade higher then a 2meg line because you......"

My friend lives in Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe gets its internet from South Africa VIA COPPER and he has a 4MEG line while the cable is 100 of KM long.
Cant Telkom just put boosters in the line. They can't be that lazy now? :\

Sorry, not true. Nice urban legend, though.

So they have an access network copper cable from a DSLAM somewhere in South Africa and they all log on via that?

Ummmm.... no. Just no.

What they might have is a fibre connection for international connectivity....

Several cables actually, including at least one connection via Botswana.
