Why does Vodacom love its R2 OOB rate so much, is their OOB oh higher quality.

Found it (first post by vodacom3g):
Following customer demand, Vodacom designed and deployed a 3G network and initial offer in a timeframe unmatched by other operators. Initial offerings are continuously improved in accordance with feedback received from customers. This is an on-going process to keep the service in step with customer requirements, and customers will immediately experience the benefits of such enhancements. To this end we welcome forums like mybroadband.co.za and take their content very seriously. As part of this standard product enhancement and development process, we are already addressing some of the concerns raised therein:

1. “Bill shock” caused by the out of bundle tariff on the 3G one contract. Going forward, out of bundle tariffs will be reduced to R2/MB. This benefit will automatically be passed on to both our current and new subscribers. In addition, multiple bundles of 1Gig is also available to 3G one contract customers.

2. The concerns expressed about the non-availability of intermediate ranges of data bundles - particular in the range between 10MB and 1 GB - are being addressed and the following bundles will be on offer shortly (all of which will also benefit from the R2/MB out of bundle tariff):

- 20MB – R35 per month
- 75MB – R110 per month
- 150MB – R149 per month
- 250MB – R200 per month
- 500MB - R350 per month
- 1GB - R599 per month
- 2 GB - R1198 per month
- 3GB - R1797 per month
- 5GB - R2995 per month
- 10GB - R5990 per month

The amount of people i have seen come on this forum that have been bitten by the OOB shark is astounding .
And Vodacom carry on with their thieving ways .

Wow... What was it before 2005 if it was reduced to R2?
Back then R2/mb OOB made some sense, with the smallest bundle costing just under R2/mb. Now the smallest data contract is R39 for 500mb which works out to 7.8c/mb, so 8c/mb OOB would be a good figure to work with, 10c/mb if you must...

When GPRS launched I think it was R40, then it was reduced to R20 and then R2.

So we're now at R1 (which Vodacom skipped), so next logical step would be 20c.

Not much has changed though, the OOB is still @R40/R20, the only difference is were working in seconds instead of megs.
GPRS it took a while to get screwed, now you can get screwed so badly in a record amount of time that it can cost your job, ruin your financially (true story, we've seen it happen one to many times over they years)

If ICASA had the peoples' interest at heart, default OOB would of been capped at 50c, and OOB would be no more than 150% of the in-bundle rates.
You would get enforced data OOB caps and throttles to make sure someone who pays R99 month doesn't end up with a bill of R9999. It would be the operator's financial problem if the user goes over this cap, (no excuses allowed of systems that don't work fast enough).

And no I will never stop complaining about OOB, until it has been slowly gutted and destroyed.
At least the other operators are trying in someway or another, like Telkom mobile that gives you a choice.

Vodacom is suppose to be the leading operator, so they should in fact be the example and finally kill of the OOB shark once and for all.
The only Shark in SA telecoms should be CellC's Rugby team.

This is 2015, put that greed aside and kill it. Stop torturing pensioners and the less computer literate.
Want to expand your network, do it so by actually providing something of value instead of via scheme of stealing a few millions of R2 rands from million South Africans each year.

Rant over.
Just my 2 rands worth.

I remember us asking them why there is no option to have the OOB disabled on contracts and Jannie, if I'm not mistaken, still said that their systems aren't designed to allow for that. Is this still the case?

Anyway, Telkom Mobile has OOB switched off by default and will switch it on by request. So it is possible to have this functionality added to Vodacom's systems.

I'm pretty sure it's more complicated for a system to switch over and chow your airtime than to just stop data when data balance <= 0. I don't believe for a second that there are system limitations that can't be overcome by Vodacom/Vodafone and their vendors.

But that system works on prepaid. I've never heard of anyone going OOB in prepaid yet...

VodaCON prepaid also goes into R2 OOB if your prepaid data bundle is depleted! Many a time my phone has eaten into prepaid airtime.... All about the nice profit.

OOB on prepaid? Are you sure? What if you run up a huge bill and throw away the SIM?

Yeah my mom's got depleted yesterday via whatsapp, Vodacom tends to give these odd free 100meg packages, then the month the skip it, they get their money back via OOB.

You go out of your data bundle and lose all your airtime then get capped at 0 airtime and 0 data.
