With the technology that we have today and the vigorous roll out of Fibre in most of SA now, also affordable at R399 from Openserve..... Why even have the discussion of SABC, Dstv, decoders, multichoice etc etc.... Just get Google Chrome, a laptop and connect it to your Fibre and presto, you will be entertained for sure

I have my doubts that the majority of SA has fibre available.

Market caps mean nothing. Dstv literally makes infinitely more profit than Netflix.
Except that it is not infinitely more. Anyone that thinks Multichoice has the power to force all Netflix subscribers to pay for DSTV as well is delusional.

“But because the Netflix tile now shows on MultiChoice’s streaming carousel interface, that DStv subscriber, from a consumer psychology perspective, might say: ‘I feel it’s a safe enough environment. I will try this’.”

Dude.... Are you blind or something? The Netflix icon is ob my TV. And on Windows.
As for the other arguments... Ffs...
Why would I buy a DSTV decoder so that I can have Netflix? I can have Netflix without the overpriced piece of khak hardware that a DSTV decoder is.

Yeah no Netflix will never allow that...
Agree they wont allow thst sort of invasive prescription. They do t really need our market and if it is allowed here it may be tried in other places too. Then Netflix becomes an international tax collector.

This article is a bit different.

Very simply, in fact. The DStv Streama and Explora Ultra come with apps such as Showmax and Netflix pre-installed on the boxes. They’ll all be accessible right from the start, shown in DStv’s proprietary UI. All you need to do is select the one you want (we’ll stick with Netflix for the example), log into your existing account and you’re ready to browse the full catalogue of series and movies.

If you set up a new Netflix account, you’ll have the option of either paying Netflix directly or including the fee for Netflix in your DStv account. If you’re using the Streama there’s no need to do this given that the box itself isn’t on a subscription and functions as a once-off payment, as we clarified last week.
So, like my Samsung tv that boots up with a Netflix icon preinstalled? Why would I pay a lot of good money for a piece of sheet hardware to duplicate that? Even if I have an old tv a Roku (for example) does that also at a fraction of the price.

I pay R139 for Netflix, can DStv beat that price, then how is this great news?

It's not about the price.
It's about being able to install the app on the DSTV platform ... no need for a smart TV or external media box .... some people prefer one unit to do ALL things .... AND THATS WHAT IT"S ABOUT :p

Nonetheless fnck DSTV
