Why Eskom could be forced to shut down over 8,500MW

Yeah right, also slap treason charges on the groups pushing for this, they're well aware doing so would kill astronomically more people.
I think it needs to be highlighted that this is the ANC killing people. Whether they comply or don't comply the death of all these people is by the ANC government. But hey lets bitch about Palestine whilst we break all huiman rights of our own.

people vote for the ANC, like people vote for Hamas, so they are one and the same,
even support each other wholeheartedly

The work is being done, just a delay and needs budget. Also we're getting funds for this from our Green friends in Germany etc.

Good luck on that killing spree Eskom.
You're going to have to do much better than this once the NHI comes into play.

"Eskom’s coal-fired power plants risks killing 79,500 people from 2025"

Sacrifice I am very happy with as long as people can still run their businesses and households.

They won't be shut down though, no matter how many articles like this we see, the consultations and 'engagements' will keep being extended and problem kicked down the road. As with the latest extension to August 2024. And even after that process it's up to the minister to decide and there's no way an ANC minister is going to shut down all those coal plants.

It'll also be interesting to see how long the temporary exemption for Kusile to bypass their FGD lasts, supposedly it's only until the end of 2024 but it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see those temporary stacks in operation long after that. Bit sad to see the only FGD in the Eskom fleet is not really fit for purpose, and I see the promised FGD for Medupi has been delayed again, with talk now of '2029'.

So the bottom line is our environmental laws look nice on paper, but don't mean much in practice. And given the problems caused by severe loadshedding in this country most people just want to see as much generation operating as possible, no matter how dirty it becomes, which is also understandable. It's truly shocking to see the trends over the last couple of decades though. The combination of poor maintenance and "coal outside the design specification" is having quite an effect.

100% sure that turning loadshedding up another 8 stages will kill more than that...

Driving through Hendrina area in winter last year was like something out of a dystopian movie. The smoke from the power stations was so thick that our eyes burned just from driving through that place. It's an unliveable hell hole. This is not some bunny-hugger thing that I witnessed - it was seriously bad! The smoke coming out of the stacks looked like they were burning the Guptas underwear.

So does this mean that if my maths is correct, stage 6 + stage 9 = Stage 15 of load shedding is imminent?

Nah, it won't happen. Some spin doctor, will tell SA it's not that bad, calculations were wrong. Anyhow SA can't afford it. Not in the state SA is in currently. But a nice fear mongering article regarding INCOMPETANCE.
