Why upgrade you whole system motherboard chip and memory to go PCI-Express? All I did was Upgrade my Chip and I bought a 7600 AGP GFX card.

Cost me about R2000 alltogether, instead of paying like R5000 for a full system upgrade.

Ill rather do a full system ugrade when Vista comes out...

Well you were probably going to have to upgrade some or other time to PCI-E when the AGP cards get really limited in choice and stop being made altogether.

Sure it will, and while that's not a bad way to stay in the game for the mean time, there's 3 issues I have with upgrading my current AGP rig (be thinking about it)

1. AGP cards do not perform the same as the similarly marked PCIe cards, the bang for buck is a LOT less.
2. Short term win, long term loss, my rig will last me a few more months, barely ;)
3. The baseline of my AGP rig is pretty low (I'm still using an Athlon XP2000) and that can't be upgraded.

You may / may not have similar issues, that's just my thoughts on it. I'm looking to upgrade after the next round of midrange graphics cards are release 8x00 series etc.

Yeah look, you may have saved some cash right now but AGP is on the way out.

This is rather like asking "Why upgrade to a DVD player? My VCR still works great."

Yes it does but not for very much longer.

Yeah I suppose you guys are right, Its just that my option was Upgrade my whole PC and get a 7600 Pci-Express or upgrade just my chip and get a 7600 AGP.

I would have paid R3000 more and had almost exactly the same thing.

Not really, because in 2 years when I upgrade again its quite likely that even if I went PCI-Express I still might have to do a full system upgrade, there might be new memory out in 2 years.

Cpu's might be running at 128bit which would mean I need to get a new mother board anyway, so spending that R3000 in 2 years might be a better option.

Ja, that is why im going 939 now instead of AM2.

I can get 1 gig of DDR400 memory for cheaper than 512mb of DDRII, and the board/chip is cheaper too. Now im only going to upgrade from this new system (X1900GT) in a few years max, so ill probably get something better than AM2 anyway. In between I can still get up to a 4600X2 so im covered for dual core, and any new gfx card will be fine.
