On a monitor with VGA, HDMI and Dvi... Why choose HDMI?

Many people use their own speakers - so can't be a sound reason. Is it just really a choice?

No reason to choose HDMI over DVI unless you want sound. They both digital.

There's a reason to stick with dvi (well dvi-d) if you want to support 1440p120hz. Displayport is best though. HDMI 2.0 might be worthy competition though.

My older macminis have native DVI while my newest has HDMI. That is the only thing that enters my decision.

Its simpler, that DVI connector is kuk thick and bulky. DVI is dead.

HMDI 2 does 4k at 60fps? 21:9 aspect ratio support? Smaller and simpler plug?

I wish HDMI, HD (1366x768) & Full HD (1920x1080) would just die.
All of these are junk pushed onto the masses/consumers.

VGA, DVI, DisplayPort and 16:10 aspect ratio (eg. 1920x1200 / 2560x1600) FTW!

HDMI offers content protection and remote commands, but it is a nightmare to use for anything besides connecting a Bluray player to a TV.

Sound and audio combined over one cable which is less likely to be degraded vs analogue before it gets to the receiving device.

Not sure how VGA made it into the mix here...

My monitor has all three - each support the resolution of my model and to me, look exactly the same, I don't use the VGA, but appears to be identical
