Why ICASA blocked TopTV Playboy plans

The arguments given fall well outside ICASA's competence and mandate. This is pure censorship, nothing more. They won't last five minutes inside a court with this idiotic excuse. I hope they get the pants sued off them.

So if it's all about 'normalizing violence towards women' I assume TopTV will be allowed to air a gay porn channel instead?

What a bunch of bullsh*t. It is not their job to regulate the ethics of porn, this falls outside their mandate. In any event for all their crap about porn being derogatory to women, those women made the choice to act on their own accord. I hope that TopTV hits them back hard.

I hope TopTV take ICASA to court over these reasons.. they're NOT in ICASA's mandate.

ROFL. :D

You can't tell me nobody saw this coming. I could have thumbsucked that
excuse in 5 minutes, it took ICASA months to collate all the complaints and use
the "best bits" as their excuse.

The bottom line is, if DSTV couldn't get Porn Channels, what made TopTV think
they would be an exception?

Imagine how DSTV would respond if TopTV got their way.

Much the same as TopTV crying "Unfair Competition" when DSTV offered a
competing package to TopTV's entry-level offering.

This is some serious bull***** right here. I love how they admit the empiric evidence is "inconclusive" - yeah, no ****, given the many studies that show the INVERSE correlation between pornography and sexual violence.

What a bunch of paternalistic jerks, acting outside of their mandate and inflicting their medieval morality on the rest of us.

So what about the eTV stuff (is it even still broadcast?) on Saturdays, this is not even scrambled...

They don't air that anymore. It's now just Cellphone Porn adverts in between movies after 11PM.
That being said, those ads are not limited to just Saturdays.

What about DSTV's Action channel? They regularly broadcast softcore porn.

Lol, these guys seem to have very particular views on porn.
Pornography is sexually explicit material that depicts women’s subordination in such a way as to endorse that subordination.

Um, gay porn, lesbian porn, any bdsm stuff? Hell even horse porn doesn't fit that description. It's not all bukakke and rape fantasy or something... From what I've seen I wouldn't call what the average porn actress does "subordination".

+1

That response looks like it was written by anti-porn fundamentalists who somehow seem to think that there are only women appearing in porn and, in all cases, are degraded or abused. It seems those same fundamentalists have not seen some S&M or BDSM scenes...
If I were TopTV I would take this back to court and have it overturned in a heartbeat. Porn is not unconstitutional - saying that you (ICASA) believes it degrades women does not make it so.

So it looks like ICASA's resources are going to be sucked up by this matter for quite some time when in fact there are more pressing matters to attend to.At this rate LLU and LTE will be implemented in 2020

They can provide a national moral compass but not a timeline for LLU. What does that mandate say again?
