Why is it so hard to port to Vodacom ?

My wife had a contract with CellC which ran its course and was converted to pay as you go. She now has a phone and sim from Vodacom which she received last week Friday and they said the port will happen by Monday. Yesterday she enquired with them and they said they are still waiting for the port to happen. I have ported my number 3 times in the past and its never been this drawn out, I am beginning to wonder if the guys in the store even sent the request to port through. Is there any other way we can get this done, right now that new phone is useless to her and they probably will want to bill even though there is zero usage.

Thanks

I'd call customer care and ask to be put through to the porting department directly and ask them if it's been done..

It takes two to tango. How do you know it's not Cell C holding the port up? They are losing a customer so they have every reason to delay. Vodacom on the other hand is gaining a customer and have nothing to gain by delaying...

When my wife ported to VC a few months ago we had no drama - was from MTN though.

Perhaps VC is testing you to see if you are the complaining type; they don't want complainers, just folks willing to be OOB shark bait! :)

Has this been resolved? If no, PM me the cell number and I will check on my system if the port was submitted or not.

Hello Doxol. I have had a look and what I can see is that the port in was approved by Cell C, but the store that you are dealing with have not yet activated the port. There should be no need to issue with a new number as the port is approved. They merely need to activate the port. Unfortunately I cannot do this from my side as the only way to do it for a contract is to go into the credit vetting application, and then flag it as a port and put in the cell number to be ported with the phone IMEI number etc. This can only be done by the store that did the credit vetting a no store may access the credit applications from another store.

She did just call then and the lastest is the number will only be ported on 4th May. Today is a week that she was given a phone and sim by the store and promised the port would be done by Monday. What recorse do we have here because I am sure Vodacom are going to bill us for this "contract". Can I return the phone and sim back to the store since they have not kept up their part of the deal ?

If this was done by a store, then if they have not yet activated the contract (therefore ported your number) then no billing can take place. In fact, they would be out of pocket a phone, cause the store will only get paid back for the issued phone once the contract is activated. What was the reason given by them for not activating the contract and porting the number? PM me the ID number of your wife. I want to check something on the system.

OK, did a search on her ID number. No cell numbers comes up so the contract is not activated yet from what I can tell. I wanted to make sure that they did not activate it, but with a new cell number.
