They made it slightly better the other day, yesterday was slower, and today its slow as hell again

I wish I had a dial-up modem right about now. Speed on my 256 is shocking! A shame since I've had months of awesome speeds...

Woodmead... but I'm guessing it has been blown up in a terrorist attack?

LOL. well im in the melville/auckland park area so connecting to sentech tower... and it seems things are faster than normal. Im not exactly sure how their large scale contension ratios operate, but it is possible that im a experiencing increased performance due to the lack performance you (you being anyone connected to the woodmead tower) are experiencing... or that there is more bandwidth available on their core due to the decrease of traffic from certain towers.

Things are definitely hosed. Web is okay running multiple threads, but throughput on eMule and Bittorrent is virtually nonexistent. Their new upstream provider is completely crap. This time the caching server doesn't seem to be the culprit as web on port 81 is also shockingly slow. Things seem to have gone pear-shaped at around midday today, maybe a little earlier. Of course repeated phonecalls to sentech support were unsuccessful... "Call volumes are unusually high". They should just say "Our service is unusually crap". Why do they seem so fundamentally unable to get the network anything remotely approaching stable? Actually, I lie - it was fine before they decided to 'improve' it. I'm giving serious consideration to going over to ADSL.

It seems to be a location based problem ( the specific tower(s) you log onto) becasue i am experiencing better throughput than normal... which is weird though because if the problem lies with the new provider than everyone should be affected regardless of the tower you log onto. Im not 100% sure how the network works but i know all traffic is relayed to a 'core' before it goes international, so if im connecting from the brixton tower my international data packets should still go through to the 'core' (which i think is in honeydew) along with with traffic from all other towers in JHB. The fact that my international traffic seems to be normal (well faster than usual actually) could indicate that the problem does not lie with the core but with certain towers.

P.S if anyone out there with a better understanding of the network can comment that would be helpful.

This made me laugh! Only because it's pretty much word for word what I wanted to type. :D

Local web access seems much faster now, but international is utter garbage. Bittorrent is limping along at a gimpy 2k/sec as opposed to a solid, consistent 25k/sec that I normally get.

"Our service is unusually crap" <-- :D

Randburg Metro is pathetic :(

I get ping timeouts to various international websites.

I retract my statement on email being fine - it's mega-slow this morning and popping to Gmail has just timed out. This is bullsh*t.

Has anyone managed to get hold of Sentech support and gotten any info from them on this?

I complained to my ISP earlier (@ +- 12h00) and they answered 30 min later having spoken to Sentech - Sentech said international was down and various basestations were also giving grief. About 17h00 it seemed to all be working - but still slow on 128.

Your download speed : 47 kbps or 5.9 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 28 kbps or 3.6 KB/sec.

Seems okay this morning, but I feel like I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for it to f**k up again :(
