Last week I had the joy of spending some time (a lot of time) on the phone with MTN’s coverage dept (after having spent even more time before that at the corporate helpdesk with them trying to find my Street name on their database) trying to uncover the following:
1) What towers are in my area [Pinelands, Cape Town]?
2) Is there 3G available?
After MUCH agony, I got the names/positions of the towers and was then told that none of them had been upgraded to 3G capabilities. I was also told that I should expect coverage as part of the stage 2 upgrade “by September”. Imagine my surprise 4 days later – having received my new N95 – when I found that I DID in fact have 3G coverage at home?????
Looking at the MTN website’s coverage map is absolutely useless; the Coverage Department appear to have gotten it wrong… Any thoughts on why providing coverage details appears to be so difficult for MTN to do?
