Why is my international so slow?

I'm on a 10Mbps Telkom ADSL line, and my download speeds are terrible
I get 4Mbps for local traffic on speedtest.mybb which is ok, but still far from the 10Mbps i'm paying for but whats really irritating me is i'm getting 0.2Mbps for international?

It doesnt make a difference whether I use my Webafrica, Afrihost or TI accounts, the result is the same (All accounts are capped accounts, with lots of available data)

I've logged a call with Telkom to check out my line, but I just don't understand why there's such a huge difference between local and international, and how I can be the only person with those ISP's experiencing it
If it was a line issue, surely local would be impacted just as much?

:twisted::confused::(:crying:

Hmm why do you suspect DNS?
Surely once the destination has been resolved and the session established DNS doesnt play a role anymore?

196.220.59.188
196.220.59.189

My router automatically gets DNS from whatever ISP when connecting, in this case, WA at the moment

True, but as you say you have tried different ISP accounts, so what's left?

Try using:

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

There is your problem. Your line is about at the limits where it will actually sync, any change in conditions can cause it to worsen also.

Firstly you won't get 10Mbit speeds because you can only sync at 7Mbit. Secondly by syncing at 7Mbit your line is highly unstable.

Get Telkom to drop you sync rate down to at least 6Mbit and see of that helps.

Id be happy with 7Mbps :)
I'll ask them to change it to 6Mbit once they attend to the call i logged

Doesnt explain why theres such a major difference in local/intl tho

I wouldn't let speedtest be your indicator. Go and download something off an international server and see what speeds you get. The other night I was getting pathetic speeds on international speedtests but when I actually downloaded something it went full speed.

You were right :)
I shouldve listened to you 2 weeks ago, reducing the line speed to 6Mb has solved all my issues

Rep x 500 to you!
