:mad:Agreed. Useless website. The company is useless, too. I took out a contract with MTN about 15 months ago after years with Vodacom. I was under the illusion that there signal was better at my farm. Wrong. Both Vodacom & MTN's signal is bad there. But at least Vodacom doesn't drop my calls in town, like MTN. I look forward to the end of my contract. Already have a note in my calendar to cancel the fools. Everything about MTN sucks big time.

haha....MTN feels absolutely nothing for their customers & their web site is a true reflection of that.

That's where you have to hand it to Vodacom, their web site is a million times better and more functional.

Isn't MTNs website running on Sharepoint ? That might explain a few design choices. They probably created a global sharepoint template and since then been fiddling with Sharepoint apps . I won't be surprised if the skills and expertise to maintain and redesign the site to be more functional is just not there as opposed to using more of the other standard web technologies which are less reliant on Sharepoint as a base platform.

Even where i work, we have Sharepoint as intranet, but i was never comfortable with pointing this outwards to the internet and using it as a "consumer" or "retail" platform (as opposed to using it as a document management platform) . I'm sure it's capable, but all the tools and components out there to rapidly develop specific types of client facing websites is most likely not found under Sharepoint tools.

Plus, chances are MTN is still on Sharepoint 2007 (or older), when Sharepoint 2013 is already available.

You might be onto something, viewing page source I found loads of links to http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebParts/v2/DataView/runtime

as well as this gem:

WebForm_InitCallback();var __wpmExportWarning='This Web Part Page has been personalized. As a result, one or more Web Part properties may contain confidential information. Make sure the properties contain information that is safe for others to read. After exporting this Web Part, view properties in the Web Part description file (.WebPart) by using a text editor such as Microsoft Notepad.';var __wpmCloseProviderWarning='You are about to close this Web Part. It is currently providing data to other Web Parts, and these connections will be deleted if this Web Part is closed. To close this Web Part, click OK. To keep this Web Part, click Cancel.';var __wpmDeleteWarning='You are about to permanently delete this Web Part. Are you sure you want to do this? To delete this Web Part, click OK. To keep this Web Part, click Cancel.';

So not only a Sharepoint page but also half assed one at that :D

Just another rant here about MTN's absolutely USELESS and awful looking website.
Try navigating the covert hyperlinks on the menu on the left on this page.

Here's a challenge. Try to find the latest bolt on data bundle pricing on their site. Near impossible!

So then, which is the correct pricing,
This one, or this one?

I thought I was the only one who felt nauseated by their website.

I bet they have kept this design since the time when websites were first used by companies as a marketing tool (in the mid-1990s).

For once I must agree with you. :)

How can Woolworths have such a funky Web site, but a huge company like MTN such a crappy one?

When you get bigger and more corporate you get people needing to give sign off, that don't know anything about what they are signing off.

It's rubbish because they couldn't give a fsuck about their customers. Mtn active used to be decent but they somehow managed to fsuck that up as well.

Some ^&%*&^%*&^% a couple of years ago tried to to persuade our organisation to make sharepoint the standard for our external site.

After much debate (lord knows why there was a debate) I asked him one simple question - "Show me one decent website built with Sharepoint as the underlying platform? One, just one?"

He no longer works here.

MTN doesn't give a faak about South Africa anymore.

When there was the ABSA & MTN dodgy simcard swap incident, MTN just walked away and denied any responsibility.

Call their customer care centre, and it sounds like the people there are having a huge party - and can't help you with anything.

*When I was still a MTN subscriber, I got all my help from a guy on this forum, working for MTN.

Been a happy customer at Vodacom since 2009.

Yes it is rubbish, i'm afraid it has always been rubbish. I remember long ago when in my early days of internet browsing when i went to their site on my phone and had to surf a see of yellow rubbish.

Even today it is rubbish. Swear i could replace that ****ty design all by myself. Obviously i won't but i'm just sayin that i can outdo those jackasses who get payed for that rubbish.

MTN is rubbish, just like it's website. Never liked it at all! Poor rubbish network.

I can now safely conclude that a network is judged by their website.
