A good, I think summary of why Venezuela went south.

With this information, what parallels are there with current political aspirations here in SA?

I've been wondering about the similarities myself. Especially after watching World's Most Dangerous Cities - the first one was filmed in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.

Scenes of people scared to leave their houses and worrying about their children when they go to school. Just reminded me of some news stories in ZA.

A bit dramatic some might say, but the situation deteriorates slowly over time.

Well for 1 thing the ANC has an alliance with the communist party. Although communism & socialism is not the same, the have similarities.

Also, as per the video Chávez was pro nationalisation & expropriation just like the ANC.

How fitting, as this just came up in my feed.

Maimane meets Venezualans, says EFF and ANC should heed the warning

DA leader Mmusi Maimane on Friday shared a platform with Venezuelan opposition members in South Africa who are trying to raise awareness about the dire state of their country.

Primero Justicia’s (Justice First’s) MPs Miguel Pizarro and Jose Manuel Olivares, both members of the Venezuelan Parliament, were in Johannesburg to publicise what Maimane described as the devastating social, political, and economic crisis unfolding in their country.
...

“We must not be arrogant enough to think that it cannot be related here, when many of the same social and political signs that existed in Venezuela in 1999 also exist in South Africa today. We must see the signs and call them out: the divisive language, pitting South Africans against each other, the dangerous violent language, the incitement, the talk of genocide, the use of race to provide cover for the abuse of power, and the destructive socialist policies which only guarantee more poverty and suffering. We must see these things clearly for what they are, and stop them now.

“It is vital we do a 180-degree turn from the path we are on under the policies of the ANC and the EFF. Both the ANC and the EFF agree with and champion the same ideas that have brought Venezuela to its knees: An assault on property rights through expropriation of land without compensation; the nationalisation of banks and key industries, creeping state authoritarianism and the abuse of power, and corrupt government filled with deployed cadres.”

Over the last century and a bit mankind has by means of modern medicine, aid to troubled parts of the world and welfare policies totally removed the cornerstone of evolution. We are keeping the weak alive and they are in many cases reproducing faster than the strong. There is no more survival of the fittest.

Through it's socialist policies Venezuela has created a nation of weaklings and once they run out of resources you see a dramatic hike in crime.

I have long since HTFU with regards to bleeding heart libtards who try to lambaste me for "discriminating" against the poor/weak/uneducated/etc...

It is the truth, inconvenient as it may be.

Its also not only the case in Venezuela, its everywhere, even here in the office.

On a site note the less intelligent seem to have more fun than the others though.

Depends which group you are looking it. For example, when I look at the masses in this country of ours I do pity them. They are being lied to and exploited by the powers that be, then again it's not my problem, people tend to reproduce irresponsibly and lack of responsibility always ends in misery.

They probably having more fun because they are oblivious to all the **** going on in the world and at home. Human population is replicating like a virus and the planet is getting a fever.

you sound like the social studies teacher in starship troopers 1,
talking about the fall of "unlimited democracies". and how the chaos of democracy led to a system of government that works.

That's not actually how evolution works. Survival of the fittest doesn't always mean the strongest, most aggressive, it just means the one who has survived and passed on their genes. Evolution isn't always leading to a better creature, but one that's fitting for it's environment.
So actually at this point in time humanity is going to be a bunch of weaklings.

We are not on the exact same path. Our economies differ wildly, and the ANC has toned down EWC rhetoric immensely. They promised to approach EWC responsibly, and so far they have kept that promise. We are however stagnating (i.e. dying a very slow death). We are not on track for rampant inflation or major goods shortages quite yet. This is a very alarmist view.
