Why not emmigrate instead of moaning and being just negative?

I am just curious to know if people in this country who are pessimistic and always moan and complain and always have something negative to say about this country, ANC, government, Zuma, world cup, etc are planning to emigrate or not? I mean what's the use of wishing this country to fail like Zimbabwe if you are not planning to leave SA?

There are news websites like news24 and iol were there is a story, and then at the end of the story there is space were people can voice their views and comments. Some of these comments illustrate people's perception about this country and its direction; some people say this country will be like Zim when Zuma becomes president while some say the Gautrain will be a disaster once it is up and running while some people say it's not going to be finished at all. Some people always have something negative to say about the world cup next year.

I know that people’s opinions must be respected and some people say things that are negative sometimes to voice their frustrations but I think there comes a point were there is a difference between being frustrated and being totally pessimistic and actually wishing to see SA fail just because you want to say "I told you so".

So I really am curious to know, are you planning on leaving this third world country of ours for a first world country like Australia or New Zealand or are you going to continue spreading negativity?

I'm not planning on leaving, and I don't think ZA will fail like Zim, but if I'm living happily abroad, I certainly won't try and fool people into thinking that ZA is anything else than it is now, which is not so great.

Alright! I'm not saying you should leave, but don't you think you'd be happier in a country like Australia? With law abiding taxi drivers who obey the rules of the road, a country with very few poor people and therefore less crime and less beggars at intersections and less car guards? If your answer is yes that you'd be a lot happier in a country such as Australia, why choose to stay here in SA?

So from the discussions that you had numerous time, did people who are still in SA and who are negative towards everything SA say they want to leave but can't because of maybe financial constraints?

Of course, and I'm sure even you'd be happy in such a place. But like PK said, it's not just a matter of packing clean underwear and getting on a plane!

So what you are saying is we must all sit back and watch them flush the country down the loo and not express opinions about whats going on around us?

The truth sometimes is not very pretty and there is a vast portion of the population that seem to not see what is going on in this country.

Packing up and leaving is the easiest way, but many of us cannot leave due to education, passports, age etc. We are stuck here. We may as well moan and kick and scream so that more people wake up to whats happening and start kicking and screaming too, and start voting with their heads and eyes and not because thats who they always voted for.

Like it or not, the ilk running this country are doing a pretty lousy job. The only people benefitting are themselves and their cronies. The people they made promises to are still waiting.

We can be negative without leaving. Why not.

If you think constantly spreading negativity and moaning and complaining while siting at your chair or couch will help this country in the long run somehow then I guess that's what you should continue doing, my point is that I don't think moaning and complaining on internet forums or other websites will help, not only is it bad for your health but bad for society, there are other ways to help make this country go in the right direction.

I am not saying you should keep quite when something is wrong, but I think most people in internet forum or discussion boards are just plain negative about absolutely each and everything about this country, maybe if a rich guy does something like sponsor a child through school and make some kind of difference may help.

But what good does it do to be just negative? You know the way I see it, things are bad in this country, everyone knows that, the ANC are tolerating corruption and they are not doing a good job with service delivery, everyone knos this, you know this and I know this and so does everybody else. So what good will telling me and other people about something they already know about?

Wouldn't it be a good thing to maybe join hands with other people and maybe do something positive like going to rural school or a township school once a month and help matric people with their studies? Wouldn't it be better to maybe teach kids less fortunate how to play cricket or something instead of constantly spreading negativity?

I'm just asking.

Dude do you just think people can pack up and move to another country?

It is not a viable option for alot of us.

+ 1

I would've been gone a long time ago if I could.

And since I pay taxes like every other working grunt - I reserve the right to moan about everything our government does wrong. As soon as they do things right - I'll stop moaning. Simple.

For most of us the only power left to us is voting ... which has limited usefulness.

I'm forced to pay a substantial amount of my salary on tax, and the 14% vat on everything I buy, so I will complain when I see what is happening with that money and how little good it's doing.

And township or community projects? Pfft you must be joking. Last time a got my car stoned, and the week before that someone tried to break into it. In broad daylight in busy streets full of children not in school where they should be. And why should I help educate children because the parents already have five others they can't take care of? Much better things to do with the rest of my money and time.

Oh, so many reasons.

This is my home.
My family is here (and no, my family and extended family and their extended families and so on are not all going to pack up and leave).
Because I hope that the country does work out, and I'd rather be here sounding warnings and trying to keep it on track than abandoning it altogether.

Would I like SA to be a country with very few poor people and therefore less crime and less beggars at intersections and less car guards? Yes.
Would I like to move to a country with very few poor people and therefore less crime and less beggars at intersections and less car guards? No.

you've got a point
it's like getting some fatal illness - you can stand on your head, but you're going to die
so yeah, it is what it is
it is what it is
it is what it is
it is what it is
:(:(:(

my logic is spot on - if you can't change something, then there is no point

What people don't seem to get is that it is possible to see everything that is going on and still be positive.

And if you are struggling to be positive, I suggest that you go and do some volunteer work. It puts you in contact with other positive people, helps you feel that you are making a difference (however small) and opens your eyes to all the positive that is happening as a counter balance to all the negative we read in the newspapers.
