I for one refuse to be treated by a 3rd rate doctor, as is my right.
As long as you realize that, eg, if you in a major city in SA, the 3rd rate doctor could be white! (So good luck if you racist)
LOL
I’m not even joking sadly but they will charge 300%. If you ask me specialists need a rating system but administering it would be hard I guess..
Uhm with regards to the title.. it’s a simple yet complex problem. SA has 3-4 main cities (jhb-Pta can be one?) and very little has changed from 94 to now in regards to how people choose to distribute themselves.
This leads to an abundance of specialists in the main centers but a shortage elsewhere. 2ndly most try and swing over to private (because working in hospitals you need to deal with snowflakes and the politics of the “in crowd” who aren’t always the best either, lots of work which is good if you studying or doing research but money isn’t as good as private for effort) leading to again, a lack of specialists in the public service. (Not everyone in private kills themselves with work as they get use to slower pace).
Combo that with the slow development time needed to produce a specialist, something like 12 to 15 years (exp requirements and avg completion times) and you can see this is not gonna be fixed fast.. kinda like most of SA problems.. it takes time to produce the right people.. and if you have racism of either form(ironically black professionals leaving SA costs us more btw because of how it impacts society).. you have skill flight which kills the economy.
What’s my point? Until people stop with stupid divisions it’s likely that we will just end up in a worse position going forward. People love blaming BEE and AA which is dumb because that’s not what’s killing SA. It boils down to crap living conditions vs crime, salary can’t compete with abroad and then u have a few racists to deal with, people trying to claim you incompetent until they get someone that kills them haha.. and then people go.. Uhm, I’d rather deal with being an immigrant and getting paid a lot.
So yah.. sa will suffer and at some point, when PIT taxes become unbearable (we likely gonna go up again) people will realize they cause their own problems.
