Why Standard Bank security software shows online banking as “unprotected”

A reader recently contacted MyBroadband to ask about security software Standard Bank’s website had advised him to download.

He was prompted to use IBM Trusteer software, but when he downloaded and tested it in Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer, it showed Standard Bank’s online banking portal -onlinebanking.standardbank.co.za – as “unprotected”.

I have had endless problems with Trusteer software when installed on PC's and will avoid it at all costs. So I am glad to see Standard Bank dropping it.

Funny thing is that Standard Bank didn't respond with the tired and overused cliché of "We take the security and privacy of our customers very, very seriously" and hope that it will be suffice. Every company spends as little as possible on cyber security that they think they can get away with. Properly implemented and very secure cyber security is extremely expensive.
