Why the R279 000 Sony TV is good news for consumers

One day in the future this will be a standard! :D

But for now it is serious overkill! ;)

I think Arthur is smoking his massively expensive socks as usual...

Launching a 4K tv at R280k does sweet blow all for the consumer. 4K is not a new technology, and the current price tag will do nothing to make it more mainstream. When it gets to R30k +-, then you will see economies of scale start taking effect.

12? That means Zooms has already ordered one for each wife and a few spare. Probably to put in his pimpin' rides. Only problem is an 84" TV is too huge for any Benz...

Please.. he's ordered a custom Benz for this badboy already...

Well i don't i can be able to spend that much for a TV but the TV is awesome only i could another R100k i can get myself VW Golf 6 Gti, well that i can live with. Above all i'm a fan of Sony products, they definitely giving Samsung some competition, :)

12 already spoken for ? @ R279000 ?!

As someone who recently started a project that involves data integration from a Financial Advisor system I can honestly tell you that most people have no idea what kind of money some people in this country are sitting on. It almost makes me want to weep and puke at the same time.

In business terms 200k per month is almost nothing so I def know what you talking about, for individuals this is still too expensive unless you within our elite sports men and elite managers in the country, for the 99% it's unattainable. I want to be within that 1%:D.

Saw 8K TV's already being showcased so is this price really justified?

4K offers exactly double the resolution of Full HD, which uses a resolution of 1920 x1080p. 4K offers 3840x2160p
About time. Once those babies become affordable I will finally be able to create an all in one Monitor that I can work from. Can split the screen in 4 zones. One for digital tv, one for my media player/YouTube, one for my browser/twitter and the other for my work environment/desktop.

In time, the R279k will be down to R80k, as the first LCD screens were 10 years ago. Now we hesitate if it is over R5k. The main thing is to show that the technology exists to build it.

The article has a factual error, the Sony TV has an resolution 4 times higher then HD, not double.

This TV: 3840x2160p = 8294400 pixels
HD: 1920 x1080p = 2073600 pixels
