If this nonsense somehow gets implemented I hope Netflix will just make on option on it where you click on SABC to watch their content, and it will ask you to enter your TV licence.

Problem solved with this nonsense. Nobody will be clicking it though :D

“With regards to the likes of Netflix, what we are talking about here is streaming services, and what we are looking at is that where streaming services are available in the market and people are able to stream SABC’s content, there needs to be valid or paid-up TV Licence,” she said.
Is Netflix actually providing SABC content?
And if so, do they pay for the content, or do they get it for free?
If they do pay for it, then there should be no need for the additional tax on SABC content.

It added that this would be similar to municipalities collecting traffic fines and motor vehicle licence discs.

Ha.. so you want an INTERNATIONAL company to collect your tv license. Traffic fines are in your country... big difference.

She said that the motivation behind this is that customers do not buy a decoder on its own – they are going to connect it to a TV for which they should have a valid licence.

Hmm.. Not true. First.. people use their phones/tables to watch netflix. 2nd .. my TV isn't even connected to arial. I don't even have an arial on my roof.

Bunch of twats. Go and stand in soccer stadiums and collect your money.

In what fcking universe does netflix stream SABC content?

Would love to see the statistical data the SABC garnished to come to these retarded conclusion

“We cannot play in the media environment as much as everyone else is doing because the legislation is outdated,”, They cannot play because they are not invited to the team, you can't legislate people to like you! Also you nerd content to be watched?

Copy/Paste:

End Copy/Paste:

If it is connected to a TV - fair enough, but cellphone, tablet, computer, streaming box connected to a monitor. No TV in equation, then forget it.

No you cannot play in the environment because everybody in the world has moved away from analogue to digital broadcast. If SABC had done what they were supposed to in the time frame they had, you would have set top boxes already in place that you could lock if license fees had not been paid (Just like DSTV) but no you would rather just drive your fancy cars and earn top salaries for doing **** and now that the crap has hit the fan you want to blame everything else.

Kudos SABS Kudos

Just die already

“We are of the view that the regulation is outdated,” Tladi said.

And I am of the view that you have stolen everything that is not bolted down to enrich yourself and now that the bucket is dry you want to find other ways of supporting your lavish lifestyle.

We can negotiate with the streaming service about a percentage of whatever people are streaming that is content which belongs to the SABC,” Tladi said.

And that percentage will be very low or zero. Do you seriously think there are people still looking at your crap on a streaming service! And launch your own service so that those people can pay.

The SABC is such a joke...... Há há há há há and I do have a TV license as I have a flat screen TV and access to dstv which broadcasts SABC channels. But if I decide to turf the flat screen and dstv and only use my laptop or projector to stream Netflix.... Then SABC can go *Fly their Kite*

Why don't they just get rid of the TV licence and make SABC a pay service like DSTV,NETFLIX,etc.

The answer is simple, noboy is prepared to pay for their content. Those that watch it, in the 'kasi, cannot pay for it, never mind a TV license. They only watch it because their TV's are mostly "free" and SABC is free, not because they think it is the best content available. Those that watch must pay. If they cannot then close up shop, and go home.

Why not, there is nothing stopping you from setting up a media server and starting a streaming service, oh other than your terrible content, but thats fair game in the industry where you dont get handouts and the customer decides who to support.

Honestly this whole thing a joke, scrap the TV license entirely, cut the fat and rely on ad revenue if ETV can do it so can you.
