MTN would ignore this at their peril...

VC can get away with ignoring it for a period I reckon.

“But people are happy with the status quo and they don’t want to go through the perceived complexity of porting their number and finding a new operator,” Seeff added.

And there you go.

People complain their provider is too expensive, but then don't bother doing something about it.

Many just don't realise how much cr@p and money you can save yourself by investigating before you buy/do. When contract renewing time comes in many would probably consider moving over. In a few months when it starts to hit their profits they will probably change their plans. Will first rip-off their subscribers for the time being.

There is a reason my Telkom debit order is R487 (21GB of daytime data, 1GB of which is all networks) while Vodacom is on prepaid and gets at best R100 out of me (R59 for 250MB and the rest for other things), that reason is that Vodacom data is way too expensive, while Telkom data is so cheap I don't even use half of my allocation but I don't feel that's even wasted.

I've never had good service experience from Telkom Mobile. I would dread trying to port my number over to them.

Once my last contract with them expires in December, I hope to never have to deal with them again.
