Why your fuel consumption is worse than what your car says

My consumption is a lot less, than claimed.

Claimed by Manufacturer 6.5l/100km (combined)
Personal average 5.9l/100km (combined)

2017 Hyundai i20 N 1.4 (85kw 160nm)

That’s interesting. Do you do something particulate unusual like no traffic over long distance?

Car in neutral/park with the handbrake on at stops.
No robot to robot racing.
Steady acceleration, no unnecessary braking.
Maintain average speeds on long trips.
no unnecessary engine revving for the noise effect.
Plenty of ways to keep consumption in check.

Automatic or manual?
Geoff, you may be interested to know that Volkswagen's DSG gearbox is described as a manual gearbox that shifts automatically, coz mechanically it's closer to a manual than a standard automatic. Maybe that makes it more palatable for you?

Still hope you are ready for criminal activity while in this mode.

Mine is a worse than what the manufacturer claims, because I drive like an d***. Except when I accelerate slowly, drive slowly and do longer distances, then it's better than what the manufacturer states.

The price of fuel is not up. The taxes on fuel is up. The more efficient cars becomes, the more the government will raise taxes to offset lost revenue. The poor with older cars will be the losers.

When you can control all variables you can say "definitely 15km per liter", ok?
a new word that I don't like, up to.
Internet speeds up to eg 4 meg
up to 15km per liter.
When you can control all variables you can say "definitely 15km per liter", ok?
Suppliers hide behind the words " up to" to cover up their sins and failure to deliver on so-called services.
So yes I agree, the words just irritate these days.

No not really. Why add the complicated mechanism to a perfectly good manual transmission? Just adds to the weight and increases maintenance issues and break down risk?
nothing beats a simple well-constructed gearbox with a clutch and a simple gear lever. No relays, coils, electronic controls, wires to age and break, burn, short etc.
