Why your fuel consumption is worse than what your car says

Ja, the fuel consumption figures quoted by manufacturers have always had car owners in a knot. Especially BEFORE and AFTER the "first service"!

I see the car manufacturers are all rather careful these days after the partial ruling in the favour of a complaint lodged with ASA.

See this extract from a randomly chosen car spec -- no particular reason for the choice. the make and model is irrelevant, just the lengths to which car manufacturers go to cover their bases these days.
So literally nothing to do with your and your fellow clown's "up to...' story ("guyz I wasn't talking about cars on that one. Just other things that use fuel and tyre pressures"). Got it. Talk about another backtrack.

If the whole sub-discussion is irrelevant to the main thread, and you believe that, then why are you getting your knickers in a knot about it? Just ignore the OT discussion. A private joke that went right over your head clearly.

For the sake of completeness here are ALL the comments made, before your innate drivel on the same subject.

a new word that I don't like, up to.
Internet speeds up to eg 4 meg
up to 15km per liter.
When you can control all variables you can say "definitely 15km per liter", ok?
Suppliers hide behind the words " up to" to over up their sins and failure to deliver on so-called services.
So yes I agree, the words just irritate these days.
I'd love to see the end result of a car you'd design that advertises with definite fuel consumption, it would only allow acceleration at a specific throttle point, you'd have a team that washes and polishes it every night, and make sure the tires are always at same pressure and the exact same fuel is used...
Agreed, but you are missing the "up to" I hate the most e.g. up to 50% off.....
Don't you use the same fuel in your car? From the same supplier (Engen whatever) and 95 or 93?.
And yes how often do you check your tyre pressures? I check at least once a week with a gauge I have in my car.
And the original comment was about the words "up to" in general, NOT just about fuel consumption.
No, it constantly has to meet whatever up to claim was used (l/100km in this instance) so that the up to is not required, or else some dumbass will sue them for not meeting that specification/speed/whatever exactly.

"guyz i was just making a private off topic joke that had nothing to do with anything here.". "Not JUST about". Really?

You get called out on making stupid comments clearly about cars (what else has tyre pressures and fuel grades) on a motoring forum and then you want to pretend it was about something else completely when you get called out on it?

You must be off your meds. All of your comments today have been like this. You are getting called out by everyone and you just keep making yourself look more and more clueless.

Shame, another guy licking his wounds after being called out for something stupid.

If you can't make a point for or against, consider adding nothing by rather keeping quiet? Or do you feel the need to be part of something?

Also, you should see this guy's comments on the manual versus auto thread. Not sure I would want to be his hug buddy.

But hey, everyone one's opinion is special! I only go on threads with people who are talking kak. Bit of a pattern really. Try and make a point rather than being weepy. You can always spot the guys who love their echo chambers, circle jerks and braai kak talk. We must accept all the comments, no matter how clueless! Just smile and nod at Jannie who is talking kak again. Sad.

I see what you mean. Pretty much says it all about this character.
Time to put him on the ignore list. Wanted to see what his comment would be. And as you pointed out he would not disappoint.

BTW ASS HAT number 99, what do you drive? Just for future reference to observe a genius at work.

While others are being sad, I am still waiting for someone to show me a 'supplier' claiming something like "up to x km/liter" (even though we spell it 'litre' but anyway).

Anyone? Or shall we accept that was just kak talk from those who thinks a car will always behave IRL like to did in a standardised test?

One that gets "up to 16 km/liter". That was my private inside joke. I wasn't talking about cars.

Is that your attempt at making some kind of point? Deflection? Thought I was ignored.

Everyone is shitting on this guy. It is a bit of a joke now TBH.

Still waiting and hoping for one of these claims. Or someone to suggest how to talk about fuel consumption of a product that satisfies clowns who can't understand why their results don't match the WLTP results.

Maybe a "good" "bester" "besterester" scale for the intellectuals who don't understand the concept of a test cycle?

The price of fuel is not up. The taxes on fuel is up. The more efficient cars becomes, the more the government will raise taxes to offset lost revenue. The poor with older cars will be the losers.
You are also wright, hear today, a packet of cigarettes R17 tax, the rest profit and factory.

Well as usualy with petrol engines the driving style matters alot but I have BMW 320i and I've driven from JHB Houghton to Centurion aver.110 km speed I got 2.8l p/100 km manufacter states I think 4.8 highway (5.5 combined)

But usually highway driving I get about 5.5
Combined 7

When driving in Mexico or Zimbabwe, it can go as high as goes as high as 11l p/100km
