I ported from CellC to MTN last month and I've been having a strange problem on my when answering calls.

Whenever someone phones me I answer, but they don't seem to hear the first few seconds of me talking, often I have to answer a few times before they hear me.

Then someone phoned me and asked, 'Are you overseas?. and I said, 'No, why?' and he said, 'because when you answer I hear a tone and it's the same tone when you phone someone who is roaming overseas.'

So, first question, is there a tone on the receivers side because I ported my number? And, is that what's cutting off the first part of the conversation?

Any help appreciated.

The tone is to indicate to the calling party that he/she is calling a ported number (and thus different rates may apply)

Not sure why you loose the first bit of audio. Could also be something to do with the ported thing. Maybe something must happen in the backend first?
