We run a hotel. We have a wireless hotspot.

We charge just to keep people off the Internet - currently there is not enough bandwitch to give it away for free. If it was free every kid and his dog would use it and then there would be no bandwidth for normal banking and email, which is its main purpose.

It is not a good source of revenue - R1000 a month on average.

It costs more than that just keeping the service up and running, but that is mostly because of our poor service provider.

I imagine if you live in a place where you can choose your ISP then you can give away internet for free, and people will line up to drink coffee or whatever you are selling.

hmmm interesting...
The other thing is, you can't give your clients unlimited internet in coffee shop or else they will never stand up, after drinking 1 coffee, and in cape town you can choose your ISP, thank god, but in smaller places you can’t, and your last option is always 3G….:crying::erm::sick:

When it comes to pre-paid hotspots, most works with credit cards, and not everyone have a credit card, and not everyone want to sell vouchers all day, so both suck

Personally I did not want to share my revenue, so I did not bother trying to sign up with a vendor that accepts cards. I have to agree its a pain making vouchers. I do it once a month and it takes about an hour.

For security reasons I have to laminate them because if I dont they end up back in the stock and the next customer complains that the voucher he was sold was already used up!! Now the customer has to cut open the lamination, so its easy to see if its been used before.
