I've seen this on another forum and decided to try it out.

-Used a small 12V 7aH battery ( alarm battery),
- Connected a 12v wire with croc clips for battery and other end fits perfectly into my router's power .

So far only tested it for about 20min , but working great.

Should be fine, but don't run the battery completely flat, will shorten the life.

Four hours max.

Make sure the router is 12v, some are 9v, or something else.

Thanks.

4 hours until flat or should I only run it for 4 hours to ensure it does not run flat ?

I've checked - the router is 12V

Could also use 2 batteries in parallel.

Then you could connect the original charger to the batteries and use it as a UPS. Simple, but should work, as long as router is permanently on. Disconnect charger if you switch the router off.

I am running my PC's (one which has to be on 24/24), my router and most of my lights on Solar. The system is 24V so I use a small downverter 24 to 12 to the router and lights. Works perfectly. I have 3g failover because here in Rustenburg when they loadshed, the telephone also seems to go down after about 10 minutes. (I guess they have not kept their generator serviced. I know they have one, I've seen it!)

What's the routers power consumption? (No pun)

I am assuming just under 1 Amp current, or 12 watts. May be a bit less. OP should check.

Yes the transformers are usually that. In that case I'd agree only run it to 50%, so 3.5 hours.

Although does the 50% rule count for these type of batteries?

I see the OP paid R255 for the battery. You can get those for about R100 less.

Some guys in my office have a interesting solution to the same problem.

A Battery Buddy - saw some at my local hardware store for R270 this weekend.

The Battery Cap fits 7 and 9 AH batteries.

Where did you get that wire from?
