So I'm looking for a router that I will be able to plug an external hard drive which will share what ever is on the drive to any wifi enabled device. I found this router http://www.takealot.com/electronics/billion-7300nx-3g-adsl2-wireless-n-modem-router,10813138 but I'm not sure if it will do the job. Maybe there is a cheaper option? It doesn't have to have the 3G option and if possible it doesn't even have to be able to share internet at all. I just need it to share the hard drive. Any suggestions?

MikroTik RB751 running RouterOS ver 5.12

They have a full on implementation of SMB.

Maybe you should not worry about the router at all and look at something like a 'sheeva pogo plug' This will sit on your network and you can access it if you can access the network via LAN or Wi-Fi, it has USB so i suppose you could connect a drive to it if the 'plug' if it is not large enough for what you want. This is exactly what these plug servers are designed for, they are tiny and not expensive

How exactly does this work? Do you plug a hard drive into the "plug" then connect the "plug" to your pc and share the connection either by lan or wifi? Would it be possible to buy a cheap "plug" and cheap router and connect the "plug" to the cheap router and share the harddrive via wifi?

Have you taken a look at the D-Link one? To the best of my knowledge it also allows sharing via USB.

Thanks a lot! However that one has adsl, I don't really need that option so I found this one http://www.takealot.com/electronics/d-link-dir-615-wireless-n-home-router,9763235 its 100 bucks cheaper and but without the adsl option, what do you think?

Well that's your own decision.... do you want a built-in modem, or not? Personally I'd take one with a modem because it's less components... but if I had an router/switch/wifi + modem separately then I'd do it separately.
