WIFI Speeds with Fibre

Hi There,

I am hoping someone can help me, i recently installed 100/50Mbs fibre line in my home.
I get about 95Mbs/49Mbs speeds which is really impressive, but only while im connected to the router via Ethernet.

When i connect to the router via WIFI my download speed drops dramatically, but my upload speed remains constant IE 35/49Mbs. I also have 3 powerline extenders and they only get around 20/20Mbs.

Before my Fibre installation i had a 10Mbs ADSL and i never had a loss of speed across the WIFI or extenders.

My questions; Are these powerline extenders "Limited" to 20Mbs and can i get my general WIFI as close to the 100Mbs speeds?

I presume the PowerLine adapters are 2.4Ghz N standard? With wireless the higher the bandwidth required the more power the wireless devices need to output. Because now everyone has multiple access points pushing out maximum power to try and accommodate the bandwidth you get interference from all other kinds of devices. What do you need 100Mbps over wireless for really? Cable up your fixed devices like TVs, Consoles etc. And use wireless for mobile?

Look at getting a Unifi AC LR or PRO depending how big your house is, make sure to watch a few Youtube vidoes on how it works. Currently using the AC Pro for a flat with 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms around 85sqm and get about 95MBps on 2.4Ghz and 380MBps on 5Ghz AC

I don't believe you'd get 1Gbps on 2.4 Ghz. Are you sure you don't mean Mbps?

Rated for: 2.4: 450 Mbps; 5: 1300 Mbps

Install a app like Wifi Analyser, see if there is interference. One clients wifi went down the tubes recently. I used the app and picked up 20 other wifis, mostly channel 1 to 8 and then 10 to 13, so I put it on channel 9 and now they have good wifi again.

My mistake yes meant Mbps so around 8-9.8MB/s on 2Ghz and 30-40MB/s on 5Ghz

Strangely I have a very similar setup to you and experience the same issues.
One positive is that if I'm within 4m of the main wifi router I get between 80 and 100 Mbs.
Further away from the router and the speeds drop drastically.
The power line adapters are poor even though it says 500Mbs. I get around 5 to 30 Mbs but that's via a wifi switch connected to the power line adapter.

Power line adapters heavily depend on copper quality, tried it at a friends place that has ~30 year old wiring, had a max of 2Mbps. Depends on your luck/circuit layout.
Are you on 802.11n? Can you post a picture of the WiFi networks channels around you? You can use WiFi Analyzer on Android, iOS the AppStore rules don't allow it, Windows you can use inSSIDer 3.1.2.1 as it's the last free version (if you're worried about viruses etc. I can upload my old install file, but then you'd have to trust me :whistling:).

EDIT: My WiFi
in_SSIDer.jpg
Notice my 2.4Ghz signal isn't red, it's going through 3 concrete walls versus my neighbor's 802.11 g which is going through the thinner boundary wall + windows.
Theirs is a max rate of 54Mbps, mine 156Mbps at that quality. The 5Ghz signal is about 526Mbps (drops to ~200Mbps sometimes) but it's iffy if I close my door the signal utterly dies on that band. I ran a LAN cable for gaming. :p

Upgrade from 802.11g to 802.11n or ac, it's one of the best performance improvements. This room used to get ~2Mbps on 802.11g and the signal ended here.
